Who will make Logie’s Hall of Fame?

The Logies are yet to announce who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame for 2009. Got any suggestions?

gold-logieThe Logie Awards are yet to announce who it will induct into its Hall of Fame.

Last year writer, performer and director John Clarke was given the honour, joining an elite list of those who have made an impact on Australian television. While the inductee is usually an individual sometimes programmes have been honoured including Play School, Neighbours and Four Corners.

It could also be awarded to someone behind the scenes. Hector Crawford was the first, while Ken G. Hall, James Davern, Reg Grundy, Bruce Gyngell and Sam Chisholm are also inducted.

Females are rare -just Ruth Cracknell has cracked the list.

The Logies prviously had a category for Sustained Excellence too, which recognised The Sullivans and Young Talent Time amongst others, but it was dropped many years ago.

So before the name is announced, who would you like to see inducted in 2009?

Which individual or programme deserves a nod for a significant contribution to Aussie telly?

    28 years on Australia’s most successful variety show – Hey Hey, plus a triumphant return with DWTS.

    I know a lot of people have a set against him (jealousy?), but he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

  3. Can someone please explain to me why Home and Away hasn’t been inducted yet?? Neighbours got it for their 20th anniversary and H&A has done longer than that now and still no win. Both shows are staples of Aussie television and both are popular overseas, as well as producing major exports (I mean Isla Fisher is now a major motion picture star!). It’s about time they got one, although please, no cheesy all-in-white dance routine.

  5. I’m thinking Home & Away this year as it’s their 21st anniversary. Neighbours got theirs.

  7. The Logies HOF this year if I had my way, would actually have 4 inductees.

    The first inductee would be Brian Naylor, and then there would be a selection from QLD, SA and WA (done by panels in their respective states) to celebrate their 50th year of television in 2009.

    Queensland inductee- Hugh Cornish, for services to the Queensland industry, both on and off-air in the first 30 years of Queensland television.

    South Australian inductee- (posthumous) Kevin Crease, for services to the South Australian industry, for nearly fifty years, in various roles.

    Western Australian inductee- TVW-7’s Telethon, for sustained excellence in 41 years of serving the WA community, which has attracted national acclaim.

    A true hall of fame would have more than one inductee a year.

  9. Peter Meakin. Has been #1 in news production for 40 years, first at TEN, then at Nine and now at Seven. May be Sydney-based but is Director of News for the Seven Network. Then there’s Ian Ross. 9 & 7 News since 1969.

  14. I remember the Countdown tribute on the Logies with Michael Veitch. I didn’t think that was to present the show any award though but just to acknowledge that it was 25(?) years since Countdown started and I guess was timely given the comedy show that was doing the rounds. But I may stand corrected…

  15. Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton I reckon. They’ve been doing their job well for decades now, and are (I think) the most well-known and accepted movie critics the country has now.

  16. Les Murray (from SBS) should get the Hall of Fame, for 25+years of services to sports on SBS.

    Red Watson and Noni Hazlehurst are good contendors too

  18. Reg Watson is a really good suggestion. Noni has also had many years across a number of fields – children’s TV, drama, entertainment – so another good suggestion

    Brian Naylor is a good choice too, but given he was really only known in Victoria might not help him qualify. (Although I wouldn’t be surprised if Brian Henderson will one day get the award even though he’s largely only known in NSW)

    What about Molly Meldrum? 30 years in TV and has done a lot to promote Australian music and talent on TV. And also hosting one of our most iconic TV shows Countdown.

    Working Dog Productions might be worthy too? They’ve made a lot of innovative and popular shows over the last 15 or so years.

    1. Naylor wouldn’t get it over Hendo. Molly is a great pick but again I recall Countdown getting something similar some time ago when Ellen Fanning introduced it and they brought out Michael Veitch doing his great Molly impression before Meldrum appeared. If it wasn’t HoF maybe that was Sustained Excellence category too? So far HoF hasn’t been awared to a prdn company (ie not Crawfords or Grundys) so it would have to go to Sitch which would be unfair…

  19. Watson is a good call. Noni Hazlehurst too, gotta be a contender, especially given her contribution to children’s television and its role. Would love to see Jana get it but she didn’t turn up when she won the Gold. I suspect they haven’t forgiven her for that.

  24. Reg Watson gets my vote.

    Having created and written many soaps over the decades including Prisoner, The Restless Years, Sons and Daughters, Neighbours, etc, his contribution to Australian television drama is without question.

    Not only have they been enormous hits at home but also internationally with some of them still playing somewhere everyday.

    The Grundy organisation and Aussie tv owes him a lot and I think he definately deserves a Hall of Fame gong – it’s long overdue.
