Desperate spin-off on the cards

Kathryn Joosten and Lily Tomlin in a regular series? Wisteria Lane just got fun again.

desperate-housewives288Now here’s a series with promise: a Desperate Housewives spin-off for Kathryn Joosten and Lily Tomlin, two terrific character actresses whose performances as Karen McCluskey and her sister Roberta have provided a great comic sub-plot this season.

Joosten has been memorable on the show from the get go, especially with her scenes with Felicity Huffman (Lynette). She’s picked up Emmy Awards as a result of her work on the show.

Tomlin of course is lauded as a film actress, even though she hit the big time on TV’s Laugh-In in the 1960s. Both actresses also appeared in The West Wing.

The recent passing of Bea Arthur brought back a lot of love for The Golden Girls, a show that has few contemporaries. Both actresses will turn 70 this year, they would be ideal for a new take on a classic premise.

It’s not clear whether the proposed series would be produced by Marc Cherry or if Tomlin’s partner, award-winning writer Jane Wagner, would be involved.

  1. Not at all Mikey, I was surprised. I had no idea she was gay and I cant even recall ever hearing that she is.

Agree – she is a great actress

  2. Now this is what I call a spin-off! It will be nice to see Lily Tomlin central to an actual series as she is a great actress, as is Kathryn. I have seen them in other series as well like The West Wing for Lily and Scrubs for Kathryn and they would be great together. Yes, perhaps a modern version of The Golden Girls.
