Airdate: Random Acts of Kindness. Bumped: homeMADE

karlsIt seems the first ‘random act of kindness’ by the Nine Network was to renovate Sunday nights and extract homeMADE.

As speculated, tipped, hinted and debated, Nine has officially dropped its Sunday edition, from Sunday June 14th.

It will be replaced by the premiere of Random Acts of Kindness, jointly presented by Karl Stefanovic, Scott Cam and Simmone Jade Mackinnon in the 6:30pm timeslot.

Nine’s big new renovation series, will now air once a week on Tuesdays at 7:30pm.

Random Acts of Kindness promises to “grant wishes and make dreams come true when they head into a community and find someone special who deserves recognition for giving their all to deserving people or causes.”

In the first episode Stefanovic will meet with a horse handler in the NSW Snowy Mountains, who teaches troubled kids to ride.

Scott Cam meets a mother whose three babies were born prematurely, inspiring her to set up Miracle Babies, a charity and support group based in Sydney’s west.

Tierney Jasper, presented by Simmone Jade Mackinnon meets a fundraiser who walked 60 kilometres to raise $5000 for Ronald McDonald House when she was just eight years old.

The removal of homeMADE follows disappointing figures for the show and tough competition from Merlin and Sunday Night. Many have argued the content did not warrant two episodes and might have fared better once a week. But Nine, which had approved the series before the economy tumbled, had made sponsor commitments. It should be grateful it didn’t go ahead with a plan to strip it five nights a week.

Others noted the show lacked the soapy storylines of The Block, also created by Julian Cress and David Barbour, and cast plenty of young, sexy designers.

While it isn’t entirely clear at this stage, so far the network seems to be settled on running out the episodes in full on Tuesdays -meaning a later conclusion, rather than any re-editing.

With Nine’s Tuesday nights in third place it may not get that luxury, particularly now the network has blinked.

  1. Fantastic show, great work.
If someone form channel nine could get in touch with me as I would like to get in touch with Greg Powell re my trouboled teen

  2. Random Acts of Kindness: Fantastic programme + excellent mix of presenters + great stories about ordinary Aussies with businesses playing a brilliant supporting role = best recipe for a great series. Looking forward to the next one.
    Congratulations

  3. This show is great. It only started were i live here tonight. What they did for Greg Powell was so nice life on the land is hard and with having horses my self it is hard when there is no feed and you need hay. We live on a farm and work for people it is getting dry here and we have just started feeding. It is sad whenit gets this bad and dry. Especially when we live in an area that has been declined for drought asisstance.

So what these people are doing is great they are helping people that help others. Keep the great work up.

  4. Hey everyone just a question if anyone Knows the names of the songs they fetured in the background of the second story of the little gir raising money on tonights show sunday the 14th june 09 could they give me the names of them it would be really appreciated. Thanks or even a copy of the show tonight would be good. Thanks guys.

  5. I am writing as Aunty of Dylan who we lost to cancer last June 14, he was aged 3. 17 months of time spent in The Sydney Childrens Hospital changed our family and friends forever. This show tonight was absolutely beautiful as it showed compassion. It demonstrated understanding and rewarded those who don’t stick there head in the sand about issues that rip the hearts out of families. Congratulations to those angels on earth that are brave enough to help others less fortunate than themselves.
Despite lots of tears I love ya work! Heidi

  6. I loved the show – what a great way to recognise ordinary people who are doing extraordinary things to help others. If some of the knockers got off their proverbials and did something for someone else the world would be a better place.

  7. Argh this show is disgusting. They exploit good people, shove a camera in their face and wait for the tears. If channel 9 really cared about these people they would help them out off camera. This is really cringe worthy stuff, can’t wait for it to be axed.

  8. Well, I must say good on you channel 9, I loved the home reno show which thanked people and now another good show. I love these shows as we get some television with only good intentions and good results and thank you channel 9 for acknowledging the good people in our society.
Well done, it is really appreciated.

  9. I’m thrilled that we have another program that gives credit to those in our community who give so freely and lovingly to others in need. I’m very proud to have a step father who in retirement is dedicated to working with various organizations, dealing with the elderly, homeless people, blind children etc. Where would we be without these wonderful people.

Congratulations I hope the program rates very well for you,

  10. “It’s about time we see community workers honored for all of their efforts, sacrifices and quite often own resources that they provide for their own communities. Community workers can tend to always put others first so it’s about time someone did something for them in return.”

  11. hi
it looks as tho its going to be a good show but a question i would like to asked please is; why do all the recipients have to have had something for there community as there are many ordinary ppl that just need a helping hand to make ends meet each day and dont do anything in particular except needing a little act of kindness to /to spark up there lifes just that little bit
i could tell you of a recipient if you wish to know
    thank you

  12. Congrats on your new show. I love watching people doing nice things for others. PS My daughters car was stolen from school last week. I would love to see someone do something nice for her eg. return it!

  13. I think this show should take off as long as you do the normal people .Like myself I have Breast/Bone Cancer and cant walk for to long lift things etc and have 3 young children .We are in desperate need of getting our front and back yards done, but cant afford it as my husband is the only wage earner. So if you could help we would be so so greatfull .
But I love all these shows and Home Made was/is good also even if i cant put up with Annie to much ,but that is what makes the show the diferent people and their personalitys Good Luck !!!!

  14. Hey I really like Karl but the stars of the first show are the student leadership team of Monaro High School. It will be worth watching just to see how good these kids are…but maybe in biased – Principal Monaro HS, NSW

  15. Karl has a smarmyness which is really annoying. The less we see of him on tv the better. That would be a random act of kindness for us “the viewer”

  16. I know that this hosting gig is part of Karl Stefanovic’s package to stay at Ch9 and not sign with Seven but Ch9 are kidding themselves if they think that he’s a drawcard and that people are going to switch on to watch his smug little Eddie-junior face.

  17. Actually Dino, it sounds more like “Undercover Angels” melded with those dreadful “let’s help out a little Aussie battler” non-stories on ACA.

Come on, Australian TV. Lift your game or be rendered obsolete.

  18. Nine would be smart to air double episodes of Homemade on Tuesday nights. Rather than stretching the show out till years end, that is a long time waiting. 7.30-9.30 or maybe have 21/2 Men from 7.30-8.30 with Homemade running 8.30-10.30 it may lift their nightly share which is getting pummelled by Seven and in particular Ten.

  19. Random Acts of Kindness sounds a little like ‘Thankyou’ the special Seven aired in the same slot late last year. The show bombed, I can’t see this doing any better.

  20. don’t cha just love how aussie networks give the garbage shows they make so many many more chances than they give american or english tv shows with scripts.

  21. “should be grateful it didn’t go ahead with a plan to strip it five nights a week”

gee hadn’t thought of that yet. that would have been a disaster against MC.
