Nine sends out Rescue party

Gigi Edgley and Katherine Hicks joined their castmates and network execs in launching Rescue: Special Ops in Sydney.

rescue 004The stars of Rescue: Special Ops launched their show last night to media in a chic Potts Point bar.

Cast members Gigi Edgley, Katherine Hicks (both pictured), Les Hill, Andrew Lees, Damian Amalm, Peter Phelps and Libby Tanner were joined by Wil Traval, Simone Jade-McKinnon, Damian Walshe-Howling, Jeremy Lindsay-Taylor, Martin Dingle Wall (are multiple names a pre-requisite?).

The event had a lot less fanfare than previous launches for Underbelly (notable for red carpet, limos and featuring on Nine News) and Sea Patrol’s naval boat event.

On hand were Nine’s David Gyngell, Michael Healy, Les Sampson, Jo Horsburgh, Andy Ryan and Jo Rooney, assisted by Nine publicity.

“We really want to say thankyou to Sarah Smith and Julie McGauran,” said Nine’s Head of Drama, Jo Horsburgh.

“And I want to say thankyou to the executive producers from Southern Star, Hugh Marks and Rory Callaghan and I also want to thank both David Gyngell and Michael Healy from Nine, for supporting us through this process.”

Horsburgh went on to thank media for reviews, buoyantly noting, “We concur with your sentiments that it’s a great show!”

Producers Sarah Smith and Julie McGauran also acknowledged cast, crew and network for helping get the show to screen.

It’s certainly a bumper climate for Aussie drama with plenty of local shows on offer, or about to unfold. Rescue will be right up there as one of the main attractions.

The show will also include Gyton Grantley, Emma Lung, Tim McCunn and Jessica Tovey.

Rescue: Special Ops premieres 8:30pm Sunday on Nine.

  1. I thought the show was just awesome…worth watching just for the panoramic scenery of the Blue Mountains…let alone the award cast of brilliant Ozzies… I was glued as were my family. Bloody brilliant!

  2. I’m looking forward to this show, the cast truly are excellent. But sadly it has absolutely zero buzz about it, and it’s on the network with a kiss of death.

  3. This show is terrible. Can the people at TCN9 do a worse job covering their tracks when they steal from already middle-of-the-road TV shows? But I’m sure if they cram the cast with former Underbelly actors, all will be well. Pfft. What a joke. MIddling crap done poorly. At least Rush has an air (if only slight) of believability.

i also see simone jade mccinnon on the ad. this show has one great guest star list i’d watch it just for that.

the only problem i have with it is the concept. .. . a rescue show. could they have been less original? we already have rush and all saints and have had plenty over the years.

  5. Gigi Edgley was just awesome in Farscape. ..as were all the other brilliant aussie actors and crew. On it’s tenth anniversary it’s about time channel nine gave the show a full airing.. maybe on Go!?
