ONE in Tassie: close but not yet

Negotiations for ONE in Tassie have delayed hopes for a launch on TDT tomorrow, but the channel expects to make an announcement shortly.

oneid11Negotiations between Tasmanian network TDT and Network TEN for the delivery of ONE HD have caused a delay in launching the channel on July 2nd, in line with Southern Cross.

But the network remains committed to ONE and is hoping to make an announcement shortly.

“We’re expecting to put out a Press Release tomorrow to announce what’s going on,” General Manager Stephen Giles told TV Tonight.

“Certainly we are going ahead with ONE and what I want to make sure is we give an accurate time,” he said.

“TDT is still committed to providing ONE HD. At this stage we are finalising negotiations and we hope to be putting out a Press Release in the next day or so.”

Last month, Southern Cross COO Greg Dodgson told TV Tonight that ONE would launch in Tasmania on July 2nd, but unforseen circumstances have since caused a delay.

There are no immediate plans for an SD broadcast of ONE.

  1. This is why I so hate living in Tassie.

But SC does provide Live ad break free AFL coverage.

I think a lot of people in Tassie won’t be able to watch ONE because most of them have only the standard digital channel!

  2. @Micheal

AFL in HD, Live F1 and Qualy, FTA boxing fight nights, live American sports like NBA, NFL, live Golf majors, an array of Motorsport, etc.

I could list more if you want. But you are just a cynic so you wouldn’t care anyway.

  3. Poker stars of poker
    Sports tonight late
    ominisport
    K1 fast driver
    netball
    netball
    i fish
    xtreame paintball
    beyond the paint

sounds like such a great line up

So what your saying is that if you don’t like sport, you probably wont like ONEHD, a sports channel?? Brilliant work. 🙂

  5. @ barrett – what exactly do WIN and Prime fail at? They screen 9HD and 7HD into their markets, the only thing that comes to mind is Prime’s poor excuse for Regional News in some of their markets. Aside from that, they’re the same as Nine and Seven, with different logos.

I’ve never been a huge fan of sports – NRL is the only sport i regularly watch, and I get into the Aus Open Tennis and World Cup Soccer, and the Olympics. That said I am looking forward to One HD starting here in Canberra tomorrow night. More choice is always good, and there appears to be a fairly diverse schedule. And I am so there for Slamball, that just sounds like a lot of fun.

  6. @ Michael.

I do love my sport and so do many other people which is why we’re so angry about missing out. I missed my team win it’s first NBA Final ever last month. And the way it’s going with TDT and their incompetence I’m crossing my fingers it will have begun by next NBA season (October).

And then there is, AFL in HD and replays, surfing, golf, the IPL, triathlons and the NFL.

    Sounds like a sensational channel.

  7. @Michael: I beg to differ, I’ve never been too much into sports, but have found quite a few things I like on One HD, the top of the list would have to be Slam ball, basketball with trampolines, a classic sport.

  8. @Gary

Surely if you had a fair few people rock up to TDT headquarters (48 New Town Rd, New Town) and demanded something you might get answer from them.

As long as TDT isn’t getting much attention from The Mercury(southern Tasmanias paper) they will keep delaying.

  9. Regional TV in Australia = joke

Austar,WIN,Prime and SC are all failures at delivering the same service as capital cities service providers.

  10. TDT advertised before Christmas that ONE HD was coming early in 2009 to Tasmanian viewers. Its now July and negotiations are still going on. The ridiculous thing is there has been no announcement at any stage from TDT refuting claims that it was coming on March 26th or again with the rest of the regionals on July 2nd.

Its been in the newspapers here saying it was coming after Govt. Ministers contacted Southern Cross. Its been discussed on talkback radio and still TDT management have remained quiet. I cant believe their incompentance!
