  1. Feels like SBS’s heart just isn’t in it any more. Open up SBS on demand and you won’t see a single Eurovision special or promo tile anywhere. Haven’t seen a single promo during SBS World News either. Eurovision is firmly within its charter (more than Alone) and has a very proud history behind it – we wouldn’t have a Curovision culture here without it! Yet the days of special docos with Julia Z driving around the host country or exploring and celebrating Australia’s unique relationship and history with Eurovision seem long gone.

There was obviously a marked shift to Myf and Joel going more mainstream and less Eurovision fan humour you got with Julia (to our loss) and the investment and interest has dropped even further since then. Atarmon need to realise that doing things like Eurovision properly, by actually spending some money, gives them the social licence to do things that are wildly off charter like Alone. Unfortunately SBS’ slow drift to being dull and ordinary continues.

    1. I checked SBS on Demand and the promo is under New and Upcoming. I’m sure from Wednesday you won’t be able to escape it. There probably isn’t much point trying to plug 2023 ESC, so they need the new content. Yes it’s a shame there aren’t extra specials which I guess gets back to SBS budget. I wouldn’t call Alone wildly off charter. People make the mistake of thinking multicultural = ethnic, and in the 1980s that’s probably true. But Alone does showcase the multi in multicultural including Indigenous, LGBT and even Seniors, connection to land etc.
