TEN locks in big shows

Nurse Jackie, Celebrity MasterChef, NCIS: LA and The Spearman Experiment. TEN hints at what's going where.

nurse_jackieTEN has released major details of several new shows to launch in coming weeks.

Celebrity MasterChef will be slated as a Wednesday night programme. The one hour show is set to roll over 10 weeks.

Despite words to the contrary from programmer David Mott, NCIS: LA will be fastracked from the US, also to screen on Wednesday nights. Maybe TEN didn’t warm to the advice of many readers here who were urging for a quick turnaround. Still, it is the prerogative of network programmers to move their wares around -especially when it is in advance of print guides.

Glee will also be fastracked from the US, to screen Thursday nights on TEN. Earlier this week in the US it was announced that the show would now launch one week ahead of previous plans (Sept 9).

Most excitingly, TEN is planningNurse Jackie on Sunday nights. This half hour cable drama starring Edie Falco as an overworked emergency nurse is attracting quite a buzz. Little Britain: USA also has its free to air premiere on TEN, to screen Sunday nights.

And the secretive new pop-culture quiz show The Spearman Experiment is to become a Tuesday night show -no doubt to replace Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation. This local show will launch in September with ‘an iconic host’ -expect confirmation of the big name this weekend.

As it did at the top of the year, TEN is very bold in throwing down the gauntlet on its programming so publicly. Nine and Seven always keep their cards very close to their chest. TEN’s strategy appears to be to ‘claim’ the nights and make other networks work around them…

‘Hung’ is rubbish. Won’t last more than one season

Sorry to disappoint jay jay… but HBO renewed this today.

Nurse Jackie is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. I am loving it.

Royal Pains is another good show. David have you heard if anyone is going to pick this up as well.

  2. That is good to hear, I was thinking that you may get something said in NCIS: Gibbs that related to NCIS: LA or something of the sort (Abby on the Phone, a TeleConference etc between the shows), and we would get it all out of sync (considering they start in the USA on the same day and are on one after the other) … like how we got Episodes of Buffy And Angel out of sync … nice work TEN.

  3. Hung is hands down one of, if not the best new show of the season. I’m hoping like hell some free to air picks it up. That said, with the religious right were up in arms over Californication, I’m not anticipating a good response.

Nurse Jackie I was hoping would turn out better, but it’s not a bad show by any means.

  4. Dexter never pulled big numbers for 10. Rove (hardly a family show) has only been rating due to Masterchef. Nurse jackie would work better along side NCIS or Medium

  5. there schedule come september actually looks bold. Monday still looks a little weak with 5 Grader, GNW and Dexter (which by the way is an awsome season 4 thoses who havent seen it). Tuesday nights quiz show will do well, like 7 and there tuesday factuals, the audience will just transfer. Hopefully new NCIS is fasttracked after it as it proved it can handel Rafters and will boost tens overall share. Wednesdays look really strong, with Celeb MasterChef and NCIS: LA. This could turn the tabels on on 7 and even if they dont win the night, i think Celeb MC will help NCIS: LA steal any woung viewers CM might have. Question is, will Law and Order: UK air at 9.30 or Fasttracked House? Personally i think they should hold house and lie to me until april and lauch them in the Masterchef effect is on, it should help boost and relaunch Hosue and Lie to Me wil be very competitive. Also with not much on from April to Sep on most networks thanks to Fast Tracking this could also work in House’s favour. Glee on thursday could work, Rush attracts alot of young females so Glee before it could work. I actually thought it would go to monday but after the 90210 collapes, ten thought a big no no. Sundays look strong, Nurse Jakie will do well out of rove, like dexter did. Rove is a family show, that finishes at 9.40 parents send there kids off to bed whil they look for something to watch….thats why Dexter worked and thats why i think Nurse Jakie will be fine. The other positive for ten, is that even though the 7pm Project is not doing well, it is not appearing to effect there 7.30 shows.

  6. TEN really is proving to be a peoples network in many ways….pity they don’t get the congrats for it…from what i hear though…they arent great payers of the $ to their employees….

  7. The people who make captions for Ten programs will have to work overtime given so many programs will be fasttracked.
I didn’t expect that Glee would start so early – and on Thursday nights too, which is a big gamble given its target audience often go out on Thursday nights. I thought Ten would have blanket promotion for Glee during its AFL Grand Final telecast, now the plan is thrown out of window.
Is Ten planning to show Nurse Jackie alongside Little Britain: USA? They will need Rove to do well on his timeslot, otherwise both programs will be ratings flop.

  8. Nurse Jackie is one of the most amazing shows I have seen in a long time. Quick, witty, edgy, offensive – but has mass appeal. Seems wasted on a Sunday night. Would be better off Wednesday or Thursday nights around 2130. Definitely not meant for a Sunday night family audience.

  9. Sounds interesting, Little Britain has been doing ok in repeats on Nine so the US version could do decently in a 9.30pm slot after Rove. Good work fast-tracking NCIS:LA, Ten’s Wed has been troubled since viewers got sick of the repetitious House in season 4, and shows like Life and Numb3rs were lucky to ever pass 700k. Glee could either turn out to be a surprise hit for both Ten and Fox, we’ll have to wait and see. I presume it would take a 7.30pm slot.

  10. This is an exciting turn of events. I wonder if Ten will also be fast-tracking NCIS, or if they’ll leave it with just NCIS:LA this year. NCIS: LA should prop up Wednesday nights as will celebrity masterchef – pushing Nine into a more regular third place.

Fantastic news also about Nurse Jackie – I have most of Season 1 downloaded which I planned on starting next week but fantatic news that its getting a FTA airing so soon. And The Spearmen experiment could have success Tuesday nights have been warmed up nicely by Generation.

  11. nurse jackie is my fav show at the moment. it is great and i hope it takes off her on ten. the acting is so funny at times and soooo well written. i love it. it is sooo much better than Weeds.

  12. I have found Ten to be very open this year and I think they are such a better station for it. This year in general the station has been better, Programming is so much better than last year, communication with the media appears more open and they are taking risks. Master chief, the 7PM project for example. In some ways they lead 7 and 9. Eg One HD first to start transmitting… (Channel 7, anything you wish to announce???)

They appear to listen to the public, at least more so than 7 and 9. The EPG is nearly always correct down to the minute, very much like the ABC. What a pity 7 and 9 are not so accurate.

Yes they have made mistakes like all stations, however announcing upcoming show like this… good on them.

On another note, I watch The 7PM Project last night, first time since the first show, and they are so much more relaxed and the show flows so much better.

  13. Celebrity MasterChef with a night time slot, didn’t see that coming. Good news for NCIS LA and lets hope the original to be fast tracked in Sept, also Glee but I still have reservations this will turn into another 90210 and get dumped. Nurse Jackie is sure to draw complains, bring it on! It’s a good show.

I wonder does TEN have rights to Hung David?
