9HD makes way for GO!

Sunday was the last day of breakout programming for 9HD, as Nine shifts focus to GO!

9hdAs GO! prepares to launch this Sunday, yesterday was the last day of breakout programming for 9HD -at least for the forseeable future.

From today 9HD will now simulcast Nine, as the network looks to direct its audience to alternative programming on the youth-skewed GO!

GO! will screen on Channel 99. The channel ‘soft-launches’ at 6:30pm Sunday with a new series of Wipeout but will broadcast test signals from Wednesday

Meanwhile regional viewers looking for GO! will find the channel on Ch. 88 on the WIN Network on the East Coast. WIN will broadcast the channel in its current broadcast areas in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania -with the exception of Griffith.

Earlier suggestions that it would begin on WIN HD are now shelved.

NBN viewers can also see GO! on 88 from the Central Coast to the Gold Coast.

Nine currently has a Helpline for people looking to access the channel: 1300 152 231 (bus. hours).

As part of the switch, a number of Nine shows are now available in high definition on 9HD simulcast.

A spokesperson from Nine told TV Tonight it expects GO!l to be added to the Foxtel platform ‘soon’, but was unable to detail any timeline.

  1. A spokesperson from Nine told TV Tonight it expects GO!l to be added to the Foxtel platform ’soon’, but was unable to detail any timeline.

Hmm, this sounds like a couple of months at least before we see it on foxtel, why the holdup, then?

  2. +1 for the disappointment at the re-programming of the AFL footy show up here in QLD. I actually applauded Nine for doing something right for once, only to get it taken away even before the season has finished.

If only there was a way to really show nine what a bunch of scumsucking, audience disregarding, money hungry operation they really are.

First they wrecked the cricket and now this……

  3. Footy Classified and the AFL Footy Show are gone from yourTV, ice tv ect. So it would seem that AFL fans are going to get screwed over again in the Northern States.

  4. Maybe NineHD/WIN-HD/NBN-HD will take its cues from ABC-HD? What I mean by that is they may just broadcast one single news bulletin from Sydney at 6pm? Could be good for people outside NSW that like a bit of choice…

  5. For people getting WIN HD this will be turned off this week to make room for GO! on ch88, WIN HD will be back later once the new GO! channel is up and running, I don’t know if this applies in the capital cities where they get Nine HD on ch90.

“3. Will the WIN Television High Definition service be affected?

Yes, to allow for the launch of GO!, WIN will temporarily cease the transmission of our current High Definition service. This will occur on Monday August 3rd. This change will be temporary and WIN Television’s High Definition service will return to your television screens very soon.”

The WIN TV website has all the info you need on this topic.

  6. i would rather see ninehd be a simulcast rather than the stupid set up they had before, where nine shows that used to be simulcast in hd where replaced by sd programming, although it would be good if ninehd showed alternative hd programming during sd programmes, as long as they still simulcast their hd programming. also cant wait for go!, as their are many shows there that interest me.

  7. Wow Neon your hatred for 9 is oh so consuming…how do you sleep at night, and when did they can you??? LOL and no i dont work for 9, I dont work for anyof the Networks, but i do like TEN a bit

  8. When a programme is in high definition from Nine it will be in high definition on 90 – that’s precisely what the HD channel is for, and what it should be doing.

There are 2x SD channels and 1x HD channel. The only reason Nine and Seven were showing things on 9HD and 7HD as “breakaways” was because there wasn’t another channel up and running – now there is.

Who knows what Seven will do with 7HD when their new channel gets up and running – they don’t know themselves what they’re doing, or so it seems.

  9. @Michael Money would be the main reason

@Neon Where are these test signals you talk of?

Also I was just looking in my copy of TV Week and I noticed the second program to air “The Big Bang Theory” at 7:30 Aug 9th it is listed as HD, could they be airing Go! on the HD channel 90 aswell? Or is it just a misprint… several programs listed on Go! have (HD) next to it.

  10. Im a bit disappointed at the cessation of 9HD breakaways. I was getting into the Seinfeld in HD. It looked so good. Oh well, sd is better than nothing

  11. All those NineHD repeats are going to turn up on “GO!!” aren’t they?

As for the HD channel, Craig,, they’re not turning it off. They’re simply making it a HD mirror of the main channel. Presumably for technical reasons.

What I’d like to see them do is use 9HD for HD programming from both the main Nine channel *and* “Go”.

And I still can’t get used to the stupid channel name.

  12. right now my EPG for channel 90 is showing the programming that is supposed to be on GO, and the EPG for 99 shows nothing beyond now and next, i guess they will fix this on wednesday when they change the channel name from “nine guide” to “go”.

still we have not got a commercial network with 3 separate channels, all they did this year when they were allowed to have 3 was go from a second one that was part time to a 24 hour independant second channel. when they allow them to have 4 channels maybe we will finally get 3.

  13. I wonder why NBN are using a new channel 88, instead of channel 81 that has been simulcasting SD 8 since digital began?

These people do realise that everytime they mess with channel allocations, they annoy the living bejeezuz out of every resident of every retirement village in the nation? (plus their poor offspring who have to go retune all their TVs and set top boxes)

  14. I find it ironic that everyone is touting HDTV and here Nine had to turn of the HD signal so it can get the 2nd SD on the air.

So much for FreeView, take one channel to add another…

  15. I was rather enjoying 9 HD. As I liked Just Shoot Me!, Seinfeld, Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. I guess I have to buy the DVDs.

I also enjoyed Kids WB and thought that the version of it only shown on the HD channel had a much better line-up of shows.

9 HD were the only channel to pay tribute to the late but great Farrah Fawcett by showing episodes of Charlie’s Angels, on both Saturday (10:30-12:30pm) and Sunday (11:00am-12:00pm) mornings.

  16. Wow, test signals! So 1975! 🙂

So this could thankfully mean the end of “Nine… HD… hd… hd… hd…” which in itself was, well, so 1975. Dreamweaver, and all that 😀

Here’s hoping that Nine intelligently uses the HD channel for showing HD programs from both regular bogan Nine and the new “Go” channel.
