9HD makes way for GO!

Sunday was the last day of breakout programming for 9HD, as Nine shifts focus to GO!

9hdAs GO! prepares to launch this Sunday, yesterday was the last day of breakout programming for 9HD -at least for the forseeable future.

From today 9HD will now simulcast Nine, as the network looks to direct its audience to alternative programming on the youth-skewed GO!

GO! will screen on Channel 99. The channel ‘soft-launches’ at 6:30pm Sunday with a new series of Wipeout but will broadcast test signals from Wednesday

Meanwhile regional viewers looking for GO! will find the channel on Ch. 88 on the WIN Network on the East Coast. WIN will broadcast the channel in its current broadcast areas in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania -with the exception of Griffith.

Earlier suggestions that it would begin on WIN HD are now shelved.

NBN viewers can also see GO! on 88 from the Central Coast to the Gold Coast.

Nine currently has a Helpline for people looking to access the channel: 1300 152 231 (bus. hours).

As part of the switch, a number of Nine shows are now available in high definition on 9HD simulcast.

A spokesperson from Nine told TV Tonight it expects GO!l to be added to the Foxtel platform ‘soon’, but was unable to detail any timeline.

  1. GO! has a horribly low bitrate. I’ve heard it’s 3mb/s for the Eastern capitals. Once motion is involved, the picture dissolves into indistinguishable blocks. Up the bitrate please! Channel 10 runs a HD channel and two decent looking SD channels. I don’t see why Channel 9 should be any different. And put “Home Improvement” on! That’s a brilliant show.

  2. Go! is absolute crap, even if it is ‘skewed’ for youth audiences. I may watch ‘Seinfeld’ occaisionally or ‘Tom and Jerry’ but, the rest of the program is ‘god-awful’

  3. Channel 9 – you are an absolute disgrace. For the 1st time ever, we finally had access for footy classified & the AFL footy show at a reasonable hour, and then you go and take it off 9hd and replace it, with total crap on go….channel 9 can go & !!

  4. Very disappointed , already on the first evening on air being brainwashed over and over again with these aggressive extreme noisy highspeed-audio hardy norten commercials.

  5. Well 9 you have really upset a lot of people with this AFL Footy Show and Footy Classified off Win HD live. Way to ‘GO’ just before the finals start to kick off and the Gold Coast are trying to promote the game so they can get a big following for when they kick off. You have really done yourself proud. LOL

  6. For those that want to petition to get AFL footy show live back in NSW and QLD join the following facebook group.

“Bring Back Live AFL Footy Show in NSW & QLD On 9 HD”

  7. I agree with others on here, in that northern AFL fans have been done over once again. I have greatly enjoyed being able to watch Footy Classified and the AFL footy show here in Brisbane. I certainly can’t stay up late enough to watch them now, and have no interest in watching rugby league programming.

Hopefully they will be shown on the new GO channel, although if history is anything to go by, this won’t be the case. Poor effort 9.

  8. Well the “youth” thing for this channel is because teenagers mostly watch shows with drama.
Shows on this channel will be shows like The Hills, Gossip Girl, I Love Money, pretty much all shows that play on MTV on Austar and Foxtel. (read that on the official ‘GO!’ site)
I personally can’t wait for this channel!
    I’m 16 by the way 🙂

  9. @ Johnson
the reason griffith is not getting the go! channel is because they dont have WIN HD,and never will!
griffith has no 10 either and never will.
the only way they can get the GO channel is by receiving it from Wagga as wagga has both WIN SD and WIN HD

  10. AFL footy show is still on 9HD after the NRL footy show (not live but still there)

Footy Classified has been taken away but maybe someone with a fraction of brain activity at CVC can tell DG to do the right thing (for once!)

  11. I’m badly missing my I Dream Of Jeannie and Bewitched. They stopped yesterday, MOnday Aug 3rd.
I hope they really will be on the GO channel.
I don’t get the whole ‘youth’thing for this channel???
    I’m 44?????

  12. Ads running on 9 and NBN tell everyone to rescan their digital tuners after 1pm Wed Aug 5. There’s also a help line to call if you have problems. After then 99 and 88 will be good to GO!

  13. Bruce: WIN owns two stations in Griffith, one is a Nine affiliate (but also shows Ten’s AFL coverage) and the other a Seven affiliate. I think WIN’s decision not to transmit GO! in Griffith may have commercial or technical reasons?

  14. Still called 9 Guide in Sydney.

I always wondered why Foxtel users complained about new FTA channels not being immediately added to Foxtel. But I now realise that some people with foxtel get it instead of having an aerial installed. Which makes sense, as installing an aerial isn’t the cheapest option, plus some areas don’t get great reception (which for digital means constant ‘no signal’ messages instead of a slightly fuzzy but still audible analogue broadcast).

  15. Test pattern already on WIN88 in Wollongong. Just has the launch details, logo, some background music and a voice over congratulating you for “successfully” tuning to GO! – Yay me!

  16. Hopefully when WINHD returns they will show the NRL in HD like 9 does as well as other sports.
Otherwise WINHD will be nothing else but a demo channel for the Canadian country side and totally irrelevant to Australian viewers.

  17. @Andy,

Hmm, this sounds like a couple of months at least before we see it on foxtel, why the holdup, then?”

Because the new satellite has to go up, should be ready for foxtel sometime in sept, this time next month if we are lucky
