Idol reviewing Kyle Sandilands

Updated: 2DAY FM suspends Kyle & Jackie O show for review while TEN reconsiders his role as an Idol judge.

ksFollowing an outrageous and misfired radio stunt last week, TEN is said to be reconsidering Kyle Sandilands’ role with Australian Idol.

“There’s no answer on his future yet … Meetings have been taking place and will continue to do so early next week,” a network spokesperson told news.com.au

“But we’re taking this really seriously.”

The networks is said to be under pressure from Idol‘s rights holder in the UK, 19 Entertainment, which is concerned about preserving the show’s family appeal.

This week the Idol judges embark on early publicity events with media around the country. If Sandilands is to be extricated from the show, FremantleMedia will need to clarify his role swiftly.

Sandilands, who has apologised for the stunt, has already filmed the audition tour for the show, but could be replaced before the live Sunday shows get underway. Delta Goodrem is also a guest judge on the audition tour.

The Sunday Telegraph reports a public announcement is expected to be made on Tuesday.

UPDATED Sun 7:30pm: Kyle Sandilands’ management has advised Austereo that he is unable to perform his duties on-air at this time.

Austereo is to suspend the Kyle & Jackie O Show until it has completed a network review, which commenced last Wednesday.

The Australian also speculates Sandilands is on the list for Celebrity MasterChef.

  1. I smiled this morning when I read (in one of the papers) an unnamed Ten source citing Sandilands as “dispensable” ever since his woeful Big Brother performance last year! That was a train wreck and I’m glad some at Ten haven’t forgotten.

  2. Why was he given the opportunity to pretend that he is so devastated by it that he can’t come back to work?

It is pretty obvious 2day told him what was going to happen but gave him the opportunity to save face again. After all he tells us over and over again he doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings – why now all of a sudden?

Just stop pandering to this arrogant disgusting pig already!!

  3. Cynical me thinks 10’s “review” of Kyle’s involvement in Idol is a publicity stunt. They’ve already filmed the auditions, so it would be odd to get rid of him now. Pity, because I always thought they dumped the wrong guy when they got rid of Holden.

  4. there is no way ten would be that stupid to put him on celebrity masterchef. it would automatically halve the audience as many including myself will not watch it if he is on it.

  5. the mother was wrong in going ahead with this. but they should have just stopped it when she as ked that question.kyle should never have been put on as a judge in the first place. what would he know about misic talent

  6. If they terminate his contract on Idol, I imagine that would mean they would have to pay him out big bucks. Doubt this will happen. I think Channel 10 will try to show they are upset.

This is ratings gold for Idol. Everyone will want to watch just to see his smarmy self trying to half apologise to the nation

Apparently Kyle refused to have the 7 second delay. He was vetoing everything on that show. Everyone panders to him cause he is the so called star. This topic was inappropriate from the start. We need to stop blaming only Kyle on this one. It is the Kyle and Jackie O show. She needs to shoulder some blame too

  7. There is more than one person at fault for what happened on the radio. As much as I despise Kyle, I wouldn’t place the total blame oh him. Saying that I don’t think it’s right at all that he should go on to judge Idol. While he may have some experience in the music industry, Idol can do without him. Maybe a guest judge a week would be the best solution instead of having a replacement judge.

  8. This is publicity gold for 10, who know that more people watch Idol to hate kyle, enjoy his abusive manner and guess how accurately he will parrot dicko or irritate Marcia, than don’t watch because of him. Personally I would rather eat my own eyeballs than listen to or watch sandilands in any format, but evidently enough people do to have made him a multi-millionairre who has the pulling power to phone in his show from the US.

When you look at the other network “stars” who’ve committed stupidities you’ll recognise a pattern of stern scolding, silence, then gentle reintroduction such that not a soul recalls thair past indiscretion. It’s called spin, and the practitioners are infinitely more crafty than we poor viewers can ever hope to be.

  9. Andrew

No, Kyle didn’t ask the question. Obviously he didn’t know the full story. But regardless, he did think it was okay to ask a 14 year old child about her sexual history live on air. Whether or not she was sexually abused, that question should never have been allowed to be asked. Christ.

And people were watching Idol long before he joined the panel. I doubt anyone will really give a damn if he goes.

  10. “The networks is said to be under pressure from Idol’s rights holder in the UK, 19 Entertainment, which is concerned about preserving the show’s family appeal.”

There’s your reason right there. By agreeing to connect a 14 year old girl to a lie detector and ask her questions about her sex life, Kyle has gone too far for the family audience that watch Idol. 19 Entertainment obviously are very protective of their format and would not like the negative publicity for one of the judges…especially given the nature of the negative publicity as far as family viewing is concerned.
Stunts on breakfast radio are one thing…the public image of a major personality on a family show is another thing all together. It’s all right to be outspoken, but to take part in publicly subjecting a 14 year old girl to questions about her sex life is pushing that “shock jock” image way too far, and now he has to face up to the consequences of his actions.

  11. Any decent person would have blurted out “Oh, Im so sorry to hear that”

Instead, we had a 38yo man asking a 14yo girl about her sex life and revealing his true perverted self

The only question is … who’s now going to parrot everything that Dicko says ?

  12. Wow suprised to read tonight that the brekky show been suspended… very suprised, they will probably keep their heads down for 2 weeks then return like normal, or perhaps 10 was sick of the negative publicity and suggested this might be a good idea?

  13. Everyone needs to calm down. Something good has come out of this in that the girl’s situation is being investigated and hopefully she will be helped and can go on to lead a happy and healthy life.
Yes a stupid awful mistake was made on the radio show and hopefully all people in the industry have been given a heads up and will act responsibly in the future.
Channel 10 is jumping on the outrage bandwagon and trying to make themselves seem caring and concerned about the situation but will not sack Kyle.
If you don’t to watch Idol just don’t watch and quit whining.
