News today indicates the ABC has chosen not to renew The Einstein Factor, Peter Berner’s six year quiz show.
“That’s the business part of show business,” he sighs. “I’ve never bought into the idea that there’s some dark forces at work.”
The humble show has survived against some tough competition on commercial networks including Domestic Blitz and Dancing with the Stars.
“I’ve proudly seen off gardening shows, renovating shows and dancing,” Berner told The Australian.
The show has seen many Mastermind-style contestants dazzle us with their unique, if often bizarre, specialty subjects all for glory and not much else.
“We offered no brass ring, no prizes, a sense of humour and now they’re all doing it,” he adds of Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation, Spicks and Specks and RocKwiz.
Resources will reportedly be redirected into the drama department.
Peter Berner now hopes to pursue a humourous political show and return to stand-up comedy.

Spoilsports!! That was the best thing about Sunday nights!!! Ah well just one more reason to watch dvds and give t.v. the flick….
I cant believe that the ABC has axed such a great Family show . I hope that a commercial station picks it up .

Why, oh why did you pick this one for the axe? It was a very entertaining and informative quiz show and had a lot of variety in its format. It was also Australian content. I never missed it, but felt it deserved a better timeslot. As a regular ABC viewer and a member of the outraged public for whom you are broadcasting, I order you to put the show back on straight away.
Thanks
Janet
I’m devastated. I loved the Einstein Factor and think Peter Berner is a great host, and very funny. I enjoyed the whole format, including the Brains Trust. The show was heaps better than anything else in that time slot.
noooo, I just watched it for the first time today 🙁
Disappointing, it was one of the few decent quiz shows that was around at a time.
Its a great, great show. I will miss it.
Damn it. I love the Einstein Factor. What am I going to watch at 6.30 Sundays now?
Its a shame it will end. The only quiz show with intellect and people not chasing money
Please don’t let Channel 10 buy this show, or the host. Then it will turn into crap…
A good show for Sunday evenings. I will miss Berner and his humour.
Good Luck Pete.
sad
Simon not the only one. I hope BackBerner returns too. Now we have no Chaser or Glass House anymore, we need it.
Pete has been great on Einstein Factor and it will be awesome to have BackBerner (or a similar show) back.
With Berner’s name attached to Eddie’s “not the 7pm project” mentioned last week, this really gives some weight to what seemed at the time to be a silly rumour. Although, I may be the only person in Australia who says this…. I really miss BackBerner.
This is the most pointless ‘gameshow’ ever – it’s so unfair and uneven… (I know I’m missing the point)…. I have watched it over the years and sure, it’s entertaining, but it’s time for something new.
Why dump it ?? We watch most Sundays and Peter Burner is a great host, not only that the show rates quite reasonably in it’s timeslot.
Why can’t the ABC just re-vamp it and only have the contestants and dump the dumb panel.
Damn, I just got into this show and now it’s gone.
“humourous political show and return to stand-up comedy.”
Back to BackBerner?
I wonder how long Spicks and Specks will last. Honestly, both shows are getting stale. It might be time to pull a Glasshouse and get some fresh ideas.
No. Don’t get rid of this show. I am a fan of this show, and will miss this show heaps when it goes off air.
Peter Berner is a good host, the brains trusts are good, and the topics of the contestants are usually good (but some of them are quite bizarre).
RIP Einstein Factor
That’s sad news.
My parents love watching it and I think Berner is a great talent – almost Graham Kennedy like in his ad-lib skills.
Good luck to whatever he does next.
