2009 Emmy Awards: winners

Toni Collette, Jon Cryer, Jessica Lange, Alec Baldwin, Jon Stewart, Glenn Close, 30 Rock & Mad Men all win Emmys. Rose Byrne and Simon Baker miss out.

tcThe 61st Primetime Emmy Awards are underway at the Nokia Theatre.

Neil Patrick Harris opened with a catchy Broadway style number “Put Down the Remote,” referencing lots of shows, stars and wry observations. Thankyou Hugh Jackman, Billy Crystal…. and it didn’t take long for the first Kanye West gag. Looks like Neil P.H. has it all in hand.

The evening is divided into genres this year, with all the awards from one category lumped together. It kicked off with Comedy.

  1. Haven’t seen Breaking Bad so can’t comment on it but Michael C Hall should have won for Dexter. And although i would have loved to see a Boston Legal actor win supportign actor Michael Emerson deserved it.

And yes there’s a reason 2.5 men isn’t nominated for outstanding comedy, because it isn’t an outstanding comedy. Neil Patrick Harris was robbed of that award from Jon Cryer.

  2. Jon Cryer?? Dam that a shame, He was the least worthy of all of them IMO. what a slap in the face for Kevin Dillon, Neil Patrick Harris, Jack McBrayer, Tracy Morgan, Rainn Wilson.

yay for toni colette, michael emerson (wasn’t expecting that) and TAR.

  3. kylie you are so spot on,2 is bull.shows such as 30 & scrubs, arrested development just get ignored & i feel the same will be for nurse jackie.
the emmy show was boring….don’t watch!

  4. Yay for 30 Rock – totally deserves to win as its the funniest show on TV – if only channel 7 would wake up and treat it with the respect that it deserves!!!!

  5. didnt Neil Patrick Harris do an outstanding job….polished, funny and professional! he may well have the Oscars people on the phone after that performance, saying that, it wouldnt have taken much to top last year debacle with the best reality host nominees hosting – that was ghastly. And it says a lot when 2.5men the top rated comedy in the US (and here for that matter) cant even rate a nomination in the oustanding comedy series category, clearly the voters arent terribly keen on innuendo and toilet humour

  6. I don’t normally watch the show but today I had the chance thanks to Arena’s live coverage (why aren’t they 16×9 yet?) and I liked the show, still some people/shows not getting the noms they deserve but Neil Patrick Harris was fantastic and I hope they ask him back next year!

  7. Yay go Jon Cryer best supporting actor for 2.5 Men!!!!!!!! He is such a good comedic actor so it’s great to finally see him win an award.

And lol can’t wait for the Kanye West send ups tonight!

  8. Poor Phil Keoghan. His show gets all the love but he still has to play second fiddle to Probst.

(maybe they should nominate Phil’s eyebrows separately next year…)
