Lifestyle tipped for Seven digital

Seven executives have been telling media buyers their new digital channel is likely to be dominated by lifestyle shows.

sevenlogoThe Australian Financial Review reports that Seven’s new digital channel is likely to be dominated by Lifestyle shows.

Seven executives have been telling media buyers the new channel will launch within three months.

The channel has previously been rumoured to be toying with possible names including 7Plus and Plus7.

Seven’s channel will be the last in the commercial channels to join the current Freeview suite, but ABC3 is coming, sometime after late November.

  1. I wish they did not restrict themselves to one genre.

I hope they put their niche and cancelled shows on it. So there is a variety of programming. And it gives them more flexibility with their scheduling. Rather than defining the channel as lifestyle only.

In a few years time, lifestyle shows may not be as popular as they are now. Trends change in television.

  2. Don’t worry, when the 7LifeStyle channel flops, they’ll change format. In this current economic climate, no channel can afford to lose viewers.

Now I would be happy if there was a 9GO! and a 7GO! and if ABC3 had “rage from the vault” overnight, or repeats of some of the older kid’s shows. But, hey, I know I’m dreaming.

  3. remember this is just a rumour, i doubt they would dedicate a whole channel to lifestyle, it just don’t seem to be a genre with a wide enough appeal, although if they did i have a feeling it might just be replays of shows a few week after they air on foxtel’s lifestyle channel. i think a general entertainment channel like go! would be great as i and my the sound of it many other have been watching go! regularly.

  4. Boooooo!!! What a crap idea that is.

I want to watch Blue Heelers, Hey Dad, Wate Rats, Murder Call, All Together Now. Old Aussie shows. Give us somethign different. Lifestyle programs are already bloody shown on every channel. Ten had the right idea by giving us 24/7 sports including things we don’t usually get to see. GO! plays all the shows Nine doesn’t. And Seven wants to play all the same shows it does at the moment. Great.

  5. LOL people complained about TEN wasting HD on sport, The GO! being filled with failed shows and now 7 with Lifestyle but I bet they will watch at least some of them.

But why a 3 month wait? Than means it will be almost 12 months after when they could have launched it, 8-9 months after ONE and 4 months after GO!

  6. They have deals with NBC Universal and The Walt Disney Company for crying out loud, why not use them properly? Movies, children’s shows and commedy (sit coms) would all be a better idea than a lifestyle channel …

  7. its strange 7 would target an audience for their 2nd channel that they rely heavily on for their main channel. At least 9 had the sense to go for an audience they had never been good at attracting before.

  8. Oh come on i dont want a damn lifestyle channel. I knew it was an idea in the works but i thought when the BBC deal fell through they ditched the idea. Please Seven as a watcher of your channel i dont want a lifestyle channel. Give us Disney shows, repeats of our favourites like Grey’s, DH, Blue Heelers, Hey Dad etc Come on Seven not lifestyle please no!

  9. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. what a waste. I was hoping for a friday night Horror night and saturday Sci Fi. Does anyone know which network has the rights to the Star Trek franchise ?

  10. Not a bad idea. I know its not popular with many of us young folk on this forum, but the Lifestyle Channel is very popular on Foxtel, so it makes sense. Go! is for entertainment, OneHD for Sport, ABC3 for kids. The only other options would be a doco, news or movies based channel.

  11. OMG are you serious? They’ve made us wait this long… (and were still waiting) and all we’re going to get is a LifeSyle channel! Cmmon ch7 like wtf. 🙁
