Airdate: The Seinfeld Reunion (Curb Your Enthusiasm)

Nine is playing a new episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm next week, billing it as The Seinfeld Reunion.

seinfeld-reunion-curbNine is playing episode 3 of the seventh series of Curb Your Enthusiasm next Tuesday night, billing it as The Seinfeld Reunion (Curb Your Enthusiasm).

The episode sees all four cast members of the legendary sitcom playing themselves as they agree to a series revival.

Seinfeld has previously commented, “Doing it with Larry and on his show just seemed like the only possible way it would be fun…” he says. “We would never do the type of thing that these shows usually do. That wouldn’t be our style. But something like this — that was sillier and a little more offbeat — felt like it might be right for us.”

In the US the cast have appeared in just one episode of the current series despite earlier reports they would appear in five.

Nine’s enthusiasm at the reunion has risen above its desire to play the series sequentially. The sixth series is currently in a first run on GO!

It airs at 9pm Tuesday October 20 on Nine.

Since Seinfeld signed off a decade ago, the cast has resisted every attempt to do a reunion show, until Larry realises it could help him win back his partner. With the network on his side Larry must convince Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer to reprise their roles. Stars Larry David, guest stars Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards.

  1. Why is anyone surprised. I gave up on nine with this show a while ago. I bought season 6 of CYE off Amazon last year (a whole year before it came out on dvd in australia) and will probably get season 7 on Amazon again. nine literally buried this show at 1 am in the morning for years and then stopped showing season 5 half way through and then stopped and didnt play the rest for ages. Its similar to what ten has done with the US Office. Meanwhile over at 7, 30 rock is regularly shuffled around at 11.30 pm at night. Both US Office and 30 Rock have won multiple emmys. Do the australian networks think that aussies have a real unsophisticated sense of humour.

  2. What a stupid programming decision that is! Nine has had an appaling history with Curb and this is insulting to the uninitiated viewer, the diehard fans, and the program makers. Curb your enthusiasm is a carefully plotted and woven series. Larry David only writes 10 a year! This is just a grab for some ratings joy as the year slips away and Channel 7 runs away with the prize. This is why!

  3. I agree with Faystar, this is the weakest ep so far for season 7, but will rate well because of the whole “Seinfeld reunion” hype. The ploy here is to promote the GO channel.

If 9 want controversy they should air S07E02 “Vehicular Fellatio”, which to me is the best of the season so far..

  4. Curb is niche viewing it’s either one or nothing, nobody would watch the first 2 eps without Seinfeld cast. I’m happy with 1 and will watch the remainder on GO! in full.

  5. I’m going to throw up … can’t think of anything more revolting … except maybe yet another version of CSI or all that kind of cop and medical dramas … oh yes I can, any episode of the Office or other stuff by Ricky G … !
    Jack!

  6. Typically dopey idea from CH9.

I’ve seen the episode and to be honest, it’s the weakest of the 4 already aired. Still fun though.

I could find so many slots on the current CH9 schedule to play Curb. I’m sure we all could.

  7. Alright, David. Thanks for clearing that up.

But knowing 9 and the Australian audience – the ratings might plummet before they get the chance to see the cast reunite on episode 3. So in that regard it might be smart to begin with the first Seinfeld ep.

  8. Am I missing the part where it is stated that this is the only episode playing?

“In the US the cast have appeared in just one episode of the current series despite earlier reports they would appear in five.”

And there have only been 4 episodes aired..

  9. Is it strange 7 and 9 don’t cross-promote the schedules of their 2nd channels?
I remember 10 used to advertise at the start of a program, what was on the other channel.

To me, I’ve only noticed GO advertised in print.

RE: Seinfeld – Its pretty silly screening this one ep when there’s every chance the cast appear more in the later episodes. Fastracking would make sense to detract downloaders, only 9 would be expecting to attract the larger general seinfeld crowd.

It’d be best to screen the whole series. (If ratings were good, I’d presume they’d show the other seinfeld eps, however there’s every chance they are weeks apart ?!)

  10. This is just pathetic, why is it they don’t give a damn about a show until something like this happens? Sorry but I doubt it will rate above the normal Tuesday line-up, but wait 3 eps back-to-back that means the Seinfeld one is not until after 10pm.

  11. @ Steve, its not so awesome if you have no idea of the story lines; this episode is 3 episodes in to the 7th season with other storylines and motivations surrounding the episode, plus its just the set up, it makes absolutely no sense to play this one episode.

  12. Oh Nine, when will you learn? Everyone knows Curb isn’t your typical comedy show where episode are self-contained. Quite the opposite, Curb has series long plots that are brought up every episode…

I’m glad they’re showing it, but it should be shown in order!

  13. Well, I guess if you are going to sit on an amazing series until a killer episode comes along, then Season 7, Episode 3, “The Reunion”, would be the episode to show…

Nice going Nine (serious) for showing the episode, nice going Nine (sarcasm) for sitting on this series for so many years…
