Nine pulls Hey Hey repeat

UPDATED: A Nine spokesperson advises TV Tonight of its plans while there are suggestions host Daryl Somers was behind the cancelled repeat.

rfThis won’t go down well at all…

Channel Nine has issued a rare weekend programming amendment this afternoon to indicate Hey Hey the Reunion will not be repeated tonight.

That’s likely to incense a lot of the fans who were singing Nine’s praises this week.

Instead it will play the movie 50 First Dates at 9:30pm instead.

At this stage there is no explanation as to the reasoning behind this.

A lot of fans had planned on watching the show a second time, and there were plenty who heard about how successful the show was and wanted to catch it tonight. Some viewers even held off the Wednesday special to enjoy the show on Saturday night, its traditional home.

A move this late only reiterates why viewers have been so alienated by Nine programming and shun many of their new programmes. Many TV Tonight readers noted the Hey Hey reunion was the first time Nine had stayed on their box in a long time.

UPDATE: After breaking the news on Nine’s cancelled Hey Hey repeat, TV Tonight can now reveal Nine will replay both specials some time after the second reunion. A Nine spokesperson did not give any reason  for tonight’s replay being withdrawn.

Update: The Herald Sun says Daryl Somers asked Nine to remove the show from Saturday’s schedule.

  1. Not happy about Hey Hey being withdrawn but I am glad they plan to replay then sometime after the second reunion. Maybe the repeats might be in a more family friendly timeslot than the scheduled repeats. Saturday night encores might give Nine a big share considering there isn’t much else on.

The repeat could have given Nine a bigger share tonight but there chances are slimmer now. Nine should be crossing fingers for their fourth weekly win as it looks less likely now.

Just hope this doesn’t affect next Wednesday’s reunion special.

  2. there is a simple reason why nine is doing this….
why waste this program when they know it will rate big time….
save it for another week when they need the rating points!

    makes sence!

  3. …I wonder if Nine is confused as to why their shows don’t rate. I’m sure the torrent sites will be in a DL frenzy now. Smart move Nine…sorry to all of your advertisers who would have had our attention

  4. I was certainly looking forward to this. 9 your obviously not trying to get people to come home as you make out to be. They have alot to do to get people coming back. This wednesday was the first time I remember watching 9 in forever, next wednesday will be the last!

  5. @ Rick,

I was thinking the exact same thing. It is fairly smart move to ensure maximum audience on Wednesday. Most peoples are not going to purposely miss this Wednesday’s episode in anger of Nine pulling tonight’s repeat. People who want to watch it will watch it, period.

  6. Not happy about this. I’ve been out of town and heard about the success of the reunion. So I set my IQ to remote record it tonight. Not happy about this at all. Typical Nine !

  7. Excuse the cynicism but maybe 9 pulled the repeat to be sure of massive ratings for the second ep.. If you missed it on Wednesday and it got pulled from Saturday, chances are you’ll make double-sure not to miss This week’s ep.. Thus Nine trounces MasterChef once again. I’m a cynic.

  8. This Wednesday may be the last time many of us watch Nine. Because we sure as hell can’t trust you to treat our favourite programs with any modicum of respect.

  9. maybe mollys dog ziggy put in a sucessfull claim for repeat roylaties and they didnt have enough to pay and so that is why they pulled it at the last minute

  10. Was actually looking forward to watching this with friends before we went out, once again Nine drops the ball.

If you disagree with Nine’s contempt for their viewers, vote with your remote.

  11. Why the heck would have they done that? I know quite a few people who for whatever reason either somehow forgot about it on Wednesday night, or missed it as they had to go out and so were looking forward to the repeat on Saturday (the actual day it is meant to be on), but then to have them now pull it?

    Whatever is the reasoning?

So sad for those who now missed the return. I guess the only solution is to look for uploaded clips on YouTube or similar.

  12. Channel Nine are a bunch of idiots.

Apart from Getaway and the Occassional Hi 5 Or Humphrey Episode and the Farmer Wants a Wife I don’t watch Nine anymore.

By the way whose dumb idea was it long before Kerry Packer Died to put on a News Bulletin in what was for many years and still in some cases is A Childrens Viewing Hour.

  13. Un-effing-believable:(

I didn’t tape it on wednesday and didn’t watch as I intended to watch it on saturday night. So unless nine repeat it elsewhere I won’t get to see it! Ugh!!!!!

It had better be a rights issue.
