Nine pulls Hey Hey repeat

UPDATED: A Nine spokesperson advises TV Tonight of its plans while there are suggestions host Daryl Somers was behind the cancelled repeat.

rfThis won’t go down well at all…

Channel Nine has issued a rare weekend programming amendment this afternoon to indicate Hey Hey the Reunion will not be repeated tonight.

That’s likely to incense a lot of the fans who were singing Nine’s praises this week.

Instead it will play the movie 50 First Dates at 9:30pm instead.

At this stage there is no explanation as to the reasoning behind this.

A lot of fans had planned on watching the show a second time, and there were plenty who heard about how successful the show was and wanted to catch it tonight. Some viewers even held off the Wednesday special to enjoy the show on Saturday night, its traditional home.

A move this late only reiterates why viewers have been so alienated by Nine programming and shun many of their new programmes. Many TV Tonight readers noted the Hey Hey reunion was the first time Nine had stayed on their box in a long time.

UPDATE: After breaking the news on Nine’s cancelled Hey Hey repeat, TV Tonight can now reveal Nine will replay both specials some time after the second reunion. A Nine spokesperson did not give any reason  for tonight’s replay being withdrawn.

Update: The Herald Sun says Daryl Somers asked Nine to remove the show from Saturday’s schedule.

  1. So much for “Welcome Home”. Nine may as well look at rebranding “So long”. 50 First Dates – replayed so many times it may as well be “50 Repeats”. Morons. Missed Wednesday night so was gonna watch it tonight. There was 1.3 million that probably watched Celebrity Master Chef on Wed night, thining they would watch this Sat night. Good decision Nine. You probably p***ed them off enough for them not to bother this Wednesday night.

    Bravo. (Clap Clap)

  2. Good on ya Channel 9 – as per usual you let everybody down again! I’ve been so excited to watch Encore Presentation all day, people here to enjoy it together and what do you do!!!! Not happy Jan!!! At all… If I wanted to watch 50 First Dates, I’d play it on my DVD… Bring back Hey Hey…Bring back Hey Hey!

  3. Not impressed with Channel Nine cancelling tonights repeat . My TV Guide from the paper had last Wednesday’s show starting at 8. So I missed the first 30mins when I taped it and was going to see that tonight. I came home early especially to watch it. I wont be watching the movie and will change to a different channel.

  4. Rights issue?? On Hey Hey, Somers openly plugged someone illegally streaming Nine on the internet. And it seems he will break Victorian and NSW lottery laws this coming Wednesday if he gives away any prizes for Chooklotto.

  5. That’s not right. It rated so well Wednesday,
you’d think they’d jump at the chance to have it rate well again!
It doesn’t make sense at all!!!

  6. This is buuulll**iiit Channel 9. Dumb asses, Hey Hey would have creamed the new episodes of RockWiz and showed that the format has some validity on the networks. I put a fatwa on your ass Channel 9 bitches.

  7. I going to find a solid wall to headbutt right now. I missed Wednesday night and the hubby recorded “Spicks n Specks”. Tonight, I’m already for H.H.I.S, with the wine following nicely thank you very much and CH9 pulls the ruddy plug?!?!?!?!?!? Damn you Channel ruddy Nine!!!!

I’m going now to use up hubby’s internet time by watching HHIS off youtube!!!! Thats if CH9 hasn’t demanded HHIS clips to be removed off there too!!!!

  8. Bring it back please!!! Hey Hey is just what we need – good old funny TV that has got the whole of Australia desperate for more.

I’d just like to express my sheer disappointment and frustration that tonight’s repeat has been pulled. My husband and I were so excited to watch the show as we only caught half of Wednesday’s show and were very much looking forward to it. What a shame to take away such a brilliant show and replace it with quite the opposite. Channel nine – get a grip!!!!

  9. I intended on watching it tonight, having a relaxing Saturday night in. I skipped it on Wednesday as it was a work night, and I had other things on, knowing it was on tonight.

  10. @Rick I don’t think you’re so much cynical as astute. The only other explanation would be Foxtel and Seven not being happy about Molly being on again.

  11. Thank goodness, thanks for the update david! Good to know it will at least be repeated in the future whew! All is forgiven Nine lol.. shame about it not being on tonight though I have a feeling it was out of Nines control.

  12. What annoys me most of all about this is the fact that the show went over time and I was counting on tonight to retape it. I had orginally taped the show on IQ but didn’t get it all….

Yet again Nine show their complete and utter disrespect to their viewers. Pathetic, completely pathetic!
