Odd Programming Moves Inc.

If you like Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, The Vampire Diaries or Moonlight try not to get confused. And what's with these late weeknight films?

joncryerNine’s upcoming schedule has some strange programming moves.

The new Two and a Half Men episode that premiered on Monday is not being followed up with further new eps yet. Instead The Big Bang Theory is back for the next two weeks. So far two eps have aired in the US.

And that new Vampire Diaries that aired on Tuesday? The rest are all on GO! Seems it was just a repeat. Meanwhile the plan to bizarrely return Moonlight is now shelved too.

Instead Nine will premiere Spiderman 3 -yes another movie on a school night (Tuesday October 13), set to run from 8:30 – 11:30. Yikes. Next Tuesday it has the Transformers premiere on Tuesday. Great flick but again it doesn’t finish until 11:30! What’s going on?

Nine is certainly getting into movie mode in the last few weeks of the ratings year with weekend repeats of The Shawshank Redemption and Happy Feet also coming. How long until The Wizard of Oz?

However, it does have the tough Blood Diamond premiere coming at 9:45pm Saturday October 17th.

While we’re on the movie subject even TEN has Love, Actually back in the planner for the umpteenth time, on Friday October 16th.

Pray we don’t get About a Boy

  1. looks like the plan to show moonlight repeats is back on again, next tuesday the 20th at 10:30pm, after aussie ladette to lady, i really don’t see any lead in effect happening there, the audience for ladette is completely different to the audience for moonlight.

  2. @ Vid: If I had the money … I would definitely buy a controlling interest in a TV Network, probably 7, … and I would love to have Neon Kitten onboard, we could definitely do much better than the clowns that do it now … you only have to look back to the glory days of Nine under Kerry Packer to see how a Network should be run … by people who actually love TV not just love money!
Yes, Foxtel is a rip off!
It all comes down to the simple fact that the ratings system is totally outdated and not relevant to today’s viewing habbits and options … a system that includes what people record to watch later would finally reveal the truth about what Aussies prefer to watch, not the current false measurements that the industry desperately hold onto by their fingernails.
    Jack!

  3. Great “fast-tracking” Channel Nine!! One episode, then take it off again. Almost as good as Channel Seven’s play a few episodes, then play the rest of the season almost a year later!

  4. 2.5 men is overexposed.I wouldn’t be surprised If where once a Giant Poster of Humphrey Once Stood over at Nines Tynte St Adelaide Studios They have a Giant Charlie Sheen Billboard

  5. I think MasterChef is a ratings winner. If the networks had learnt anything form that series, they would have intended to put shows on that take ratings form 900,000 to 1m+ viewers. Look at the 7PM project or Spearman, they just have to go!. I think TEN are pretty good when it comes to keeping low rating shows on,. and showing something 2X or 3x over in one quarter. A good example is The Simpsons which has had some episodes shown 2x within a three month period. Last year they showed us a new ep of season 19 and then replayed it at 6pm 2.5mths later! The same goes for Nanny McPhee, as that got premiered earlier this yr, then replayed 2.5mths later! TEN must love repeats and low ratings at 7PM! Time they had more MasterChef I think?

  6. @ jack and neon kitten…..
the networks must have reasons why they do these changes…
i for one wont pay for foxtel…waste of money.. talk about repeats on tv..foxtel take the prize for that!!
network tv is doing an ok job as it is..yes it could be better..but seven has won the ratings this year so why would 9 and ten waste their programs to get ratings only to replay them next year to get rating points again…
i have a suggestion for u both… why dont u run your own tv station like a community station…apply for a licence and have a go for yourself… u both seem to know how to run a network…
    its not easy……

  7. @Stan: We are the masses! We are the ones who watch a lot of TV!
@NeonKitten: Again we are of one mind! Yes, the second HD channels are becoming a total farce!! … endless, pointless Sport on one, and endless waste of space Movie repeats on another … if we wanted that we would be paying for Foxtel … (Note: this is one big reason why I refuse to pay for Foxtel for a heap of stuff I don’t want and one or two shows I do want) …
I think we should throw away our HD PVRs and just forget “feer-to-air” TV altogether … as I said before, the Networks are forcing us to turn elsewhere to get something new and intereasting to watch!
The day of the Network is over! They have proven themselves incapable of remaining relevant!
    Jack!
