Australia’s Radha Mitchell has landed the lead role in a US crime series for the A&E Network.
In The Quickening, she will play Maggie Bird, an LAPD homicide detective assigned to a desk job after it is discovered that she suffers from a bipolar disorder. Her character faces the dilemma of having to choose between her medication and her profession. She’s a brilliant detective, so long as she doesn’t take the medicine that regulates her bipolar disorder (Tara meets Monk anyone?).
“Her illness makes her brilliant as a detective but makes her personal life hell,” A&E’s Tana Nugent Jamieson said. “So she is teetering on and off her medications.”
The series was penned by Jennifer Salt (Nip / Tuck) some time ago, and it recently caught the attention of Tana Nugent Jamieson, A&E’s senior veep of scripted drama.
In Australia Mitchell appeared in Neighbours, Blue Heelers, Phoenix and All Together Now.
She currently appears opposite Bruce Willis in the sci-fi film Surrogates, with other roles on Pitch Black, Phone Booth, Finding Neverland and Uprising.

You nailed it David: Tara meets Monk!
As a fan of both shows (the latter which I have always thought is woefully underrated), I’d tune in to see what Radha could do with the role.
She may have made some schlock as of late, but her seminal performance in High Art means I will always give her the benefit of the doubt….
Based on Garry Sweet’s (Luke Harris) character in Stingers????
Sounds not even slightly original, with not an ounce of uniqueness.
Shame.
I reckon there are more murders on TV than in the real world.
She’s a great actress, if only she’d stop making US schlock-horror films. Perhaps this television gig can pay the bills and she can make some quality films instead.
