Ryan Moloney to leave Neighbours

After three decades as Jarrod ‘Toadfish’ Rebecchi, Ryan Moloney will leave Ramsay Street -but moves behind the camera.

Ryan Moloney will farewell Neighbours later this year after some 30 years with the long running soap -but will move behind the scene to pursue directing ambitions.

First gracing our screens in 1995, Jarrod ‘Toadfish’ Rebecchi, he has become synonymous with the soap in Australia, the UK and in multiple territories.

“After 30 years playing Toadie, I will be leaving Ramsay Street,” he said. “I can’t tell you what is happening to the character – maybe I could be the next Jim Robinson. Or maybe I’ll be the next Harold Bishop and keep popping back over the years. And although I won’t be bringing you our fantastic storylines from in front of the camera, I will be bringing them to you from the other side, behind the camera. I’ve just started director training and have just finished filming my first episode as director – so I really hope that you enjoy that.

“Thank you all for the love that you have shown me and Toadie over the years. Three decades, in fact. I’ll miss you, I’ll miss him, and I’ll miss Erinsborough… but whatever you do, make sure you don’t miss what’s going to happen on Ramsay Street.”

Executive Producer, Jason Herbison said: “Toadie is an Australian television icon and Ryan is Ramsay Street royalty. The street won’t be the same without seeing him every week, however there’s every chance he will pop back in the future.

“In the meantime, we’re thrilled to support his directing ambitions and can’t wait for viewers to see how Toadie’s season-long story arc plays out. Ryan’s been instrumental in the journey and has blown us away with his performance.”

Neighbours screens Monday to Thursday at 4:00pm / 6:30pm on 10 Peach.

  1. It’s all quite shocking considering the “finale” was in large part built around his character. The unions of Mel and Toadie was a union of two eras of Neighbours. How is the revival going in ratings? I still enjoy watching the show, although it’s a surreal experience having mourned their loss, believed it was ending and grieved their passing.

  2. As gutted as they were it was axed always felt for the core four the return actually put an end to them pursuing theur ambitions away from the show, though must admit of the four thought Toadie might last the longest.

Good luck to him on the other side of the camera.

    1. Assuming that Madeline West didn’t want to stay on full-time during her last stint, this would actually be a great excuse to bring her back and give them their long-belated happy ending (a mere 21 years in the making).

  3. I’m actually not surprised, Ryans heart just hasn’t seemed to be in it since the show returned. What is great is that he won’t be lost to the show!
The storyline with Therese has not worked, I think they will break up, he will move back to Colac to look after his parents, they seem to be sowing those seeds already.
He can take Hugo and Nell could move in with the Kennedys and he can pop in and out as needed!

    1. I can see Nell staying and living with Terese or Susan and Karl. Hope so anyway, thrle show needs the young teen storylines like with her and JJ which has been a breath of fresh air.

  4. This has got to be one of the biggest shocks I didn’t see coming!

After so long, you just kind of presume he’d be there forever.

An end of a (very long) era!

  5. End of an era! I assume he didn’t really want to return to the show when it got revived, but I’m glad he did for the sake of wrapping things up with his character.

Surely they’re not going to write off his kids and/or Therese/Melanie as well? Guess we’ll see!

    1. You’d assume Hugo would leave with him if he simply moved away, but Nell would stay for “school” and live with Therese/Kennedys/Melanie.
