Seven launches Kitchen Rules

Seven launched its new cooking contest to Melbourne media with a slap-up dinner last night -but only once mentioned TEN's elephant in its room.

Channel Seven launched its new reality cooking contest, My Kitchen Rules, to media in Melbourne last night.

The slap-up dinner in the function room atop South Melbourne Central, Andrew O’Keefe was host for the night, introducing media to the show’s two judges Pete Evans and Manu Fieldel, plus the two Victorian contenders, best mates Clint Yudelman and Noah Rose.

A string of Seven celebs sat down for dinner including Sonia Kruger, Ed Kavalee, Peter Helliar, Jennifer Keyte, Peter Mitchell, David Brown, Tim Watson, Mike Munro, Corrine Grant, Damien Richardson, Axle Whitehead, Nadia Townsend, Matthew Richardson plus various Seven producers and execs. Other guests included Adam Richard, Ryan Shelton and various print, radio and online media.

Both Evans and Fieldel spoke highly of the show and the opportunity to work on the project. Amongst several speeches, Pete Evans was the only one to acknowledge the word ‘MasterChef’ -TEN’s elephant in Seven’s room- while few were acknowledging any parallels with Come Dine with Me, the other home-based cooking contest for which Seven owns the UK production. Evans also promised a mix of fantastic dishes and cooking disasters “which make for great television.”

Just a sizzle reel was played ahead of the show’s debut next week, showing a snappily edited montage of cooking, contestants under pressure and a glimpse of the My Kitchen Rules headquarters, complemented by an upbeat pop song.

Seven will air two episodes at 7:30pm Monday February 1 & 2 followed by two more on February 8 & 9.

Sydney media will sit down for their launch today.

  1. that’s good that Ed Kavalee is still considered a 7 personaliy. there was some talk that TVburp may not return despite execs saying they are keen to give it anoher shot.

  2. So i guess they want the Victorian pair to win then. I’m not overly excited by this show, but then again i wasn’t excited by Masterchef, and gave up on it, but then i grew to love Masterchef. If there’s nothing else on, i’ll give it a go.
