The Office takes a holiday

Looks like The Office is checking out of TEN early. And that Malcolm kid is really wearing out the welcome mat.

Malcolm in the Middle is really wearing out the welcome mat on TEN.

A few amendments have come through for the week of January 24 which sees The Office out of schedule and a whole lot more of Malcolm. It also has a celebrity special, I Get That a Lot, which was first scheduled last March but never surfaced.

Tue 26
7:30pm I Get That A Lot (1 Hr Special)
“A one-hour special featuring stars that play practical jokes on unsuspecting fans in a case of mistaken celebrity. Working everyday jobs, our celebs confuse customers who cant decide if it’s the actual celebrity or an astonishing look-alike. Featuring Paris Hilton, Gene Simmons & Snoop Dogg.”

Other changes are as follows:

Wed 27
7:30pm The All New Simpsons (As Scheduled)
8:00pm Futurama Rpt
8:30pm The Cleveland Show
9:00pm The Simpsons Rpt
9:30pm The Simpsons Rpt
10:00pm Californication (final)

Thu 28
6:00 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt
6:30 Neighbours
7:00 The 7PM Project
7:30 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt
8:00 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt

and not forgetting more Malcolm here:
Fri 29
6:00 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt
6:30 Neighbours
7:00 The 7PM Project
7:30 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt
8:00 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt

Whether The Office resumes in the final week of summer January 31 remains to be seen, but don’t bet your holiday house on it.

  1. I’m actually looking forward to more Malcolm. With Malcolm currently out of the schedule bar Fridays, I wouldn’t mind if Ten replaced 6pm Simpsons with Malcolm for a while as I’d never watched the show throughout its days on Nine.

I’m pi**ed off that The Office was treated so shabbily though. It’s completely incompatible with the likes of that low-brow crap AoP, and Ten should have aired double episodes of both shows on separate nights as they attract opposing audiences.

@ Leon: By the time January 27th rolls around, yes, Ten would have run out of new episodes of Futurama; however, they still have two first-run episodes left to air (one airing tonight with the season finale airing next week).

  2. @ slowlylu – I have an explanation for you,

The Office is an unfunny, unintersting, poor version of the original, whilst Malcolm is witty and clever and has some outstanding actors (Lois and Hal).

I cringe when Office ads come on – I mean if they are supposed to be the funniest bits of the show, the show is in big trouble.

  3. I have been enjoying Malcolm in the Middle during the summer.

I can’t see Ten playing it as frequently during the ratings period. Or it being a huge ratings success. But I think it is a good short term alternative if they need to rest the Simpsons repeats.

I remember really liking it when it first screened. It may also appeal to younger viewers seeing it for the first time.

  4. I think the general Australian doesn’t like the humor The Office presents… that is why it doesn’t get watched, MitM is a lot more basic and established here so people watch it.

  5. Its only for one week, isn’t it? Biggest Loser and Dance are back the following week – including the first ever Bigger Loser Masterclass – which I imagine will be on Friday nights.

The Office will probably return to obscure late night timeslots.

  6. How the hell can The Office be the weak link between itself and Accidentally on
purpose? AoP is probably worse than season 1 of The Office & given that CBS ratings drop around 1 million when it airs I’d say it will either be a cut or moved to mid season. I don’t know why ten didn’t just do double episodes of the office given how backlogged they are.

  7. You have got be f***ing kidding me!!!! Alright where’s that I Hate TEN group so i can sign up. What is the point of dropping The Office and putting Malcolm on 3 times a night, surely one of those spot can be for The Office. Get rid of bloody Neighbours instead. I was happy with Malcolm at 6.30 cos it meant i had something to watch then. Now i’m waiting for Full House to start on 7TWO.

    I Hate TEN.

  8. That’s outrageous. Besides, I thought The Simpsons was Channel 10’s saviour program (as Two and A Half Men is for Channel 9)?

We blogged. They listened. Then they forgot & did what they wanted to anyway.

  9. David, I remember watching ‘I Get That A Lot’ last Easter?? So it did ‘surface’… It had Heidi Klum in it last time, and this time it seems it’s Paris Hilton and Snoop Dogg’s turn… I think they’re two separate specials?

  10. Rats – how is it possible that 10 year old sitcom rates better in repeats than a brand new (unless sourced via other means) 18 month old sitcom?
    Australia I demand an explanation.

  11. It seems that Ten ran out of first run Accidentally on Purpose…and seeing as The Office was the weak link in the comedy duo, I guess they chose to go with something completely different in the last couple of weeks of Summer. That special was only just played in the U.S., and rated very well.
