Will Kiefer stick with Jack Bauer?

During the Television Critic’s Association Press Tour, Kiefer Sutherland and the upcoming cast of 24 answered questions on the show.

The burning question? Is this it for 24 or is there more?

Straight-shooter Sutherland had this to say:

“This is one of the greatest gifts of my life, the ability to do 24. So for me, yes. It is something that is absolutely open. I have always said that as long as people wanted us to make it, people wanted to watch it. I would be interested. The task of writing it is far greater than the task of acting in it. But certainly it is always open to continue doing it. But right now my focus is finishing season 8.”

And as for a movie?

“Well we have talked about making the movie for some time, so I don’t think Howard (Gordon) and I would want to inhibit that. If we are going to do it, we better do it soon, because Jack is getting older by the minute. (laugh) Those are all to be taken into consideration. If I just had my dream, yeah, it would be fantastic to just have a definitive end and have it be something that was really jolting and surprising and not at the place where you think it would be.”

  1. 24 has been consistently good every year IMO, although season 4 was a bit clunky. One of the rare action/thriller serials that is consistently entertaining, other series like Jericho and Prison Break I found were hit and miss.

  2. @ Amber – depending what channels you get in your area – do a rescan and it will show up on 72 if you’re in a Seven region, or 62 if you’re in a Prime region.

    As for 24, so looking forward to the new season. Hope Prime get rid of the disgusting orange watermark before then though. It’ll prove very distracting in a show that has such great atmosphere, particularly in the ‘night-time’ episodes.

    24 is still a great show, although for me, the best Season was still #5, where the prez did it.

  4. With his 24 contract finished, Fox would have to pay KS in the vicinity of probably
    800 000 an episode (at the very least) to sign on for a 9th season. They’re better off spending it on a film, where they can do things they never had the money for on TV.

  5. mine is on 72, but doesnt appear in the EPG. I have to manually press in 72 to get there – so i kinda forget about it. It’s not until i flick through c7 and they have an advert for whats on / coming up on the other c7.

    As for jack – id like to see him move away from the tv – though unlikely I think kiefer knows his movies have been largely crap, and 24 is his saving grace. I doubt he’s in any rush to ditch the tv show for a movie franchise. That being said, i dont know how much more milage they can get from the character. Jack bauer in space maybe? 🙂

  6. Amber – I am a Prime viewer and it is on Channel 62 called “7TWO Prime” (not Channel 72 like Sydney viewers). I didn’t have to scan for it – it appeared just days before Christmas. Hope this helps.

  7. I cant wait and i hope its not the final season. This is a great series and it’ll be interesting to see where they go with it.

    Have you tried rescanning your set top box or digital tuner? If so then i am surprised you havent got 7TWO.
