Seven admits David Leckie is not really in the target audience for Cougar Town. Thank god for that.

After those startling comments by Seven CEO David Leckie yesterday, today Seven spokesperson Simon Francis has sought to clarify them to The Australian.
“His point was that we’re really good at promotion and getting an audience,” Francis said.
“He wasn’t making a comment about Cougar Town in particular, about the quality of the show.
“As anyone who’s met David would acknowledge, he’s most definitely not in the target audience for Cougar Town, and given the program’s opening audience numbers he’s happy to be in the minority.”
Today the newspaper also reported Francis tried to tell the Sunday Telegraph the comments were off the record but was overruled by Leckie during the interview.
The comments were re-reported by a number of media yesterday.

What to believe, what to believe…
I only just watched it and very surprised at how bad the writing is…
Burt – It is a half hour show.
it not often you see a spokeperson having to defend a show on their own network due to negative comments the own networks own ceo made
I think the lesson learned here is to never, ever let Leckie sit in on an interview again.
The premise is good, but it’d probably have fared better as a 30 minute show, not a 60 minute one and also as a premium cable show, without US network restrictions, when it comes to sex and language. Ms Cox probably wouldn’t do nudity, so probably a different lead actor as well.
I think Seven’s promos make the show look awful, the show itself isn’t that bad.
A little late to retract those comments now…
I think it’s a fun show. Each to their own though.
Leckie is right..the show is just awful ..a waste of time
Bit late for an apology now.
Far more people would have read Leckies comments in The Sunday Telegraph than read the apology in The Australian.
But it is a crap show, he was only speaking the truth. A show about and aimed at 30/40/50 something single (and desperate) women that looked so botoxed can only be seen a total and utter crap.
