Former Desperate Housewives actor Neal McDonough will star in Scoundrels, the US version of Outrageous Fortune.
McDonough, who played Dave Williams, the psycho husband of Edie (Nicolette Sheridan), will play the patriarach of a family, who is sent to prison leaving the matriarch to try and steer her family back on the straight and narrow. The latter role is to be played by Virginia Madsen (Sideways, Candyman, Monk).
Scoundrels will be the second attempt by ABC to remake the NZ dramedy after Good Behavior, by Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars, Dawson’s Creek) did not get picked up.
Meanwhile Nicolette Sheridan has a new CBS role as the stage mother of a precocious teen superstar whose father moves from the UK to L.A. to reconnect with his daughter.

You are kidding me aren’t you??? On the positive side of this – nice to see Go Girls finally getting a decent home and decent timeslot in this country!! Ten had it and kept playing around with it!! Thank you Arena!!
And Leven Rambin from Greys Anatomy will be playing Vanessa (Pascalle’s role)
Why mess with a classic. The Americans will butcher yet another fanstatic series.
@Hmmmm ABC’s pilot portfilio has comedies: Awkwrd Situations for Men, How to be a Better American, It Takes a Village, Happy Endings, Freshman, Wright vs, Wrong, Mr. Sunshine and 2 untitled.
and drama: The Whole Truth, 1-8-7 Detroit, Off the Map, Body of Evidence, True, Blue, Matadors, Edgar Floats, Generation Y, No Ordinary Family, Cutthroat.
Mr. Sunshine with matthew perry and No ordinary family (dramedy about a family that become superheros) have been getting a lot of attention and are likely to be picked up.
Good question Silly.
David can you find out if the pilot is intended for ABC or will be produced by the studio for a cable channel?
Sorry, I don’t chase up US shows, but will bear it in mind if I stumble across it.
Part of the appeal of Outrageous Fortune is that it is so unrelentlessly trashy and boganesque. I can’t imagine the prettied up U.S. counterparts doing the premise justice.
Any idea on whether the remake will be airing on U.S. FTA or cable? If it’ll be airing on cable, couldn’t they just air the original series? =/
Another series for the Yanks to screw completely. Part of what makes Outrageous Fortune what it is the fact that some opf it can be “outrageous” – subject matter & language. Something the Americans will struggle with given their sensibilities
