Kyle to join Australia’s Got Talent

Updated: "I have always been a massive fan of the show and can’t wait to get behind the desk of Australia's only free-for-all talent show."

Kyle Sandilands is set to return to judging TV talent on Australia’s Got Talent, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The controversial radio man, who has previously been tipped to join the show, will reportedly announce his judging role on his breakfast show tomorrow.

Sandilands was famously dumped by Australian Idol following a controversial radio stunt last year, but later acknowledged he understood the reasons behind the network’s move.

The newspaper says neither Seven nor Sandilands’s agent Andrew Hawkins returned calls on the question of his AGT role, but noted that TV industry sources confirmed it.

Dannii Minogue is also set to return but so far the network is yet to confirm any judges.

Red Symons is tipped to return to Hey Hey It’s Saturday which could still leave a third role open for revamping. Brian McFadden’s name has also been rumoured, while Tom Burlinson may miss out on a judging chair.

Auditions for the show begin around the country this weekend.

Updated: Seven confirms Sandilands.

“I am thrilled to be joining Channel Seven – so Australia, you think you’ve got talent – I am going to be the new judge of that,” Sandilands said today.

“Singers, dancers, comedians – if you have an act worth watching or think you have what it takes to be a star – we want you. I have always been a massive fan of the show and can’t wait to get behind the desk of Australia’s only free-for-all talent show.”

  1. I don’t see this working. Okay Idle and AGT are both of the same fabric essentially, but the competition is toned down a notch and when I’ve watched, the panel seems to appreciate that without some of the woeful acts, they would have no show and embrace the terrible and misguided. One wonders if Kyle will be all growls and sour faced, telling young and old with glee that they are losers, have no idea of talent and show them the door with a superior dismissive snarl ala his Idle persona.

I just can’t see him being casually entertained which – from what I’ve seen of it seems to be AGT’s focus, before they cull down to the mildly or somewhat genuinely talented. It’s all a bit like putting a bull in a china shop really, but time will tell I guess.

I’ve never really taken an interest or actively made a point of watching. I query how many 7 viewers will hang in there given the cross promo’s to sunrise and vice versa. One can see many hands rubbing with glee at controversy, mean comments and news bites. A wise man did once say “…as long as they’re talking about you…”

However, with the new landscape of reality shows such as Masterchef with a focus on encouragement and a less mean critique of it’s contestants, one has to wonder if that landscape is something Sandilands is aware of…or even able to embrace?

  2. Ch 7What’s wrong with you people?? The show was good as it was. Now you are going to loose viewers. Taking Tom Burlinson out and put that idot in his chair. Thats very wrong.

  3. First Matthew Johns, now this dim wit Sandilands ….. is ch 7 determined to sign every loser, tosser and embarassing blemish currently operating in the Australian entertainment industry?

Luckily I never liked nor watched this mundane program, and with this latest signing I can guarantee I won’t be tuning into this cycle.

  4. One thing’s for sure, Australia’s Got Talent will struggle to find as many kids auditioning this year, because a lot of parents sure won’t want Kyle Sandilands around their children. Bad move.

  5. You people disgust me. I think he is perfect for the role. TEN sacked him unfairly and i think its great he is joining the show. Remember the incident happened on radio not television. I cant wait to see him in action

  6. Seven poached Dicko from Idol and all he did was poonce around on Dancing with the stars before running back to TEN.

I don’t watch AGT because Grant Denyer is a pain – but now there is double reason to avoid this show with Kyle coming on.

Kyle has a fan base – they were the ones that made the last season of Big Brother such a huge success!

  7. Kyle is living proof of the truth of The Peter Principle, that people tend to be promoted to their level of incompetence. I have never understood the public’s fascination with him and I cannot believe that Seven are dumping someone of the stature of Tom Burlinson for this idiot. Oh, that’s right – the audience identifies with know-all, controversial idiots rather than will people who have a bit of class and knowledge of showbiz gained over decades of treading the boards. Yet again, the lowest common denominator wins out. I personally think it’s a bad move by Seven, but he will bring in ratings from his adoring fans, so financially it makes sense.

  8. Several years ago this might have had me wanting to watch. now? no. hell no. Sooooooo over Kyle and his antics. Never want to watch anything with him in it ever again.
