Airdate: Hey Hey it’s Saturday

Nine has confirmed the date for its 2010 version of Hey Hey it's Saturday while staying mum on who is returning.

Nine has confirmed the date for its 2010 version of Hey Hey it’s Saturday as 7:30pm Wednesday April 14 as a two hour show.

It retains it’s traditional name despite the new night.

Nine is yet to clarify how many episodes we are getting of the show this year, or who will appear, but its promo photo features Daryl Somers & Ossie Ostrich.

After a 10-year absence from TV, the first Hey Hey it’s Saturday reunion show attracted a peak audience of nearly four million viewers across Australia, with an average audience of 3,158,000 (5 City Metro and Regional cities).

The second reunion show attracted a peak audience of 3,937,000 viewers and an average of 3,213,000 (5 City Metro and Regional cities).

So Hey Hey it’s Saturday host Daryl Somers is understandably thrilled to bring his unique brand of Aussie entertainment back into the nation’s households once again.

“Assembling the whole gang for the reunion shows was truly a labour of love for me,” said Somers.

“I was humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response to the shows and delighted to be able to present to Australia the sort of entertainment that people so clearly want. We look forward to offering the best in local and international music and laughter in 2010.”

Hey Hey it’s Saturday, the new series, premieres on Wednesday, April 14, at 7.30pm with a two-hour blockbuster.

  1. Can anyone tell me, is this returning as another ‘special’? Or is this becoming a regular Wednesday night addition? If so, how many eps do they plan to produce?

  2. David – how low will ratings need to be before it’s axed, and/or how many weeks will 9 give this? I’m sure early ratings will be very good.

  3. A two-hour show? Yeah, sure.

Anyone planning on recording shows airing after it, be sure to add at least an extra hour on your timers. You’ll need to.

  4. For the sake of the kids, drop the “Its Saturday” part of the name and just call it Hey Hey. What are the trying to do – confuse everyone under the age of 11 to what day it is?

  5. May have been good on Tuesday to fill the gap left by Talking About Your Generation (which did well then) and also when Dancing With The Stars was on a Tuesday it also did better(than on a Sunday (two shows moving to Sunday that did well on Tuesdays, that could be considered Family Viewing/Entertainment).

Wednesday may work though, it is after all only a day after and with the number of people you read saying Talking About Your Generation should have stayed a weekday show, it may be a really good timeslot yet.

  6. I know Daryl and co are daggy and lacking in originality – but personally I am so over reality tv – airports, borders, beaches, vets, holidays, food shows, chefs and competitions – that some silliness and variety would make a nice change – not refreshingly so – but I am willing to give it a go. I have never really liked Mr Somers, but respected his ability to survive and thrive in a merciless industry.
Since 1971 he has been on our screens, for better or worse! I think the series will do quite well.

  7. David: According to the Red Faces terms and conditions PDF on the Hey Hey website (www.heyhey.tv),
“There will be twenty Hey Hey It’s Saturday episodes broadcast live on the Nine
    Network during 2010”

  8. The reason it was so popular back in the day was because it was a nice family show to sit down to on a saturday night.

Can’t see that it will work on a wednesday – if it remains a family show, the kids need to go to bed for school!

Would love to see it return to a saturday night 6.30pm timeslot.

  9. This is going to be so confusing when they get overseas guests on the show, who weren’t aware of it when it was last on. Thinking they’ll be doing a show on Saturdays, but it will really be Wednesday.

Anyway, apart from that I am really, really looking forward to the return. I just hope Ossie can be there at times as well.

  10. Could’ve had a simple name change to Hey Hey as the show is commonly referred to as anyway.

I’m not interested in watching it though. I don’t doubt that it will rate well; but I think Nine are naive if they think over 2 million will tune in for it on a weekly basis; alot of those viewers were tuning in for a once off to be nostalgic.

I’ll take my comment back if I am wrong.

  11. They should scribble in a “not” in the logo. “Hey Hey, it’s *not* Saturday!”

So why couldn’t they have wrangled Saturday free for it? It’s not like Nine has must-see TV scheduled there.

  12. I’ll be watching it too-hope to see no Jackson Jive acts though. Hey hey its Wednesday ewouldn’t have same ring to it as Hey Hey its Saturday would.

  13. It’s so inspirational to see the kind of innovation the Australian television is capable of, as epitomised by the return of Hey Hey It’s Saturday (on Wednesday). The creative minds at work have truly exceeded all expectation, kudos to everyone involved in what will hopefully herald a return to the glory day of the 1970’s!

  14. I am so happy it’s coming back. Only thing that bugs me is that it should have been renamed “Hey Hey it’s Wednesday” or just simply “Hey Hey”. Other than that, i’m excited!

  15. can’t wait!

Daryl can you release some of the Hey Hey archives for GO! to play on Saturday nights??

If it’s good enough for Countdown on Rage then it’s good enough for retro Hey Hey on GO!
