K-9, the new Doctor Who spin-off series filmed in Brisbane, will have its Australian premiere next Saturday at 9:30am on TEN.

The series, jointly created by Bob Baker and Paul Tams, features a version of the robot dog which appeared in Doctor Who from 1977-1981 before returning in the 2006 story ‘School Reunion.’

Bob Baker (Wallace and Gromit) and his writing partner Dave Martin created the original K-9 for the fourth Doctor story ‘The Invisible Enemy.’

K-9 is set in near-future London, with 14-year old characters Starkey and Jorjie, alongside a Professor Gryffen, who is experimenting with a Space-Time Manipulator, and an “artful dodger” 15-year-old Darius.

The design of K-9 is noticeably different from that seen in Doctor Who because although Bob Baker owns the character rights to K-9, the original character design is owned by the BBC.

John Leeson once more voices the character of K-9.

The series will also be seen on the Cartoon Network later this year .

  1. If you can hang in there the last episode – no 26 – is fantastic! Very Doctor Who. The series is great – you won’t see FX like this in any other kid’s show in this country.

  2. Does 10 promise to play all episodes regardless of ratings?
    And why 930am , surely a prime time slot would be better?? O well my fingers are crossed

  3. Michael, K9 is a coproduction from 10 that is why it was always going to be shown, at least the first time around on a free to air network, on 10.

  4. In Australia:-

    – “Doctor Who’ :- ABC1 & UKTV;
    – “Torchwood” – ABC2;
    – “The Sarah Jane Adventures” – Nickelodeon;
    – “K-9” – Ch 10 then to Cartoon Network

  5. Looking forward to this.

    Quite surprising it is coming to Cartoon Network later in the year. I would have thought of all the pay tv channels Disney would be the one to show K9 since K9 has been shown on the Disney Channels in the UK and some Eastern European countries.
