Border Security: C-Squadron

Border Security will detour from its normal format to go behind the scenes of the elite C-Squadron on the frontlines in Afghanistan.

Sunday night’s episode of Border Security will detour from its normal format to go behind the scenes of the elite C-Squadron on the frontlines in Afghanistan.

This one hour special was more than 2 years in the planning, and saw Seven’s cameras embedded behind Taliban enemy lines with Australia’s Chinook helicopter pilots.

Cameras were given unlimited access to the C-Squadron’s five month tour of duty, although there is no indication if narrator Grant Bowler was involved in the process. Would be good to shake up his role with the show with an opportunity like that.

From the heartbreak of leaving loved ones behind, to every frightening moment in battle, viewers witness first-hand what Australian soldiers deal with day-to-day with the harsh realities of war.

Executive Producer Lyndal Marks said; “This was one of the most expansive and intriguing factual shows I’ve ever worked on. Our cameras capture the roller coaster of emotions of the daily life and death struggle of our soldiers. This is the true frontline of defense, as they fight to stop terrorism, and drugs from the world’s biggest producer of heroin, crossing our borders.”

This cutting edge special has been more than two years in the making, with production teams using revolutionary technology never before operated in an Australia production to give viewers an intimate, up close seat right alongside the C-Squadron’s action.

Our courageous C-Squadron soldiers are now considered the Taliban’s number one target.

Inspiring and moving, this ground breaking special is not to be missed.

Seven is screening this special in non-ratings, at 7:30pm Sunday April 4th.

  1. How do I get a copy of this great episode? I was over there with these wonderful young Aussies, and our aircraft and their crew are doing a wonderful job keeping the ANZAC Spirit alive.
    Cheers

  2. Neon, comments like that are what makes it so hard for us in the Army and even the defence force community as whole to retain members so that operations like the one that you saw in the C-Squadron special can continue to occur.

As for relevance, what is more relevant than catching the people and group that was responsible for the worst terrorist bombings in history, regardless of where it occured. It is about removing these people so that Australia’s ‘Border’ remains ‘Secure’.

  3. I heared it was mainly about air crew.. That annoys me.. ABout them and their 5 month deployments.. What about the Combat corps.. What about the boys who are actually under constant fire and for 9 months at a time.. I still havent seen it though.. Hope to find it somewhere…

  4. I would like to see “C Squadron” again. Brilliant. Congrats to all concerned.

If not, how do I get a DVD copy?

    Please advise.

  5. Excellent show. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this special event. It gave me an insight of what my son did when he went away to Iraq for 8 months with the army. I’m very proud of all the men and women, and their families, of the defence forces for what they do for this country. Keep it up.

  6. After watching this episode I felt proud to be an Australian and to live in such a free and wonderful country. The filming of this episode was done in such a sensitive way as to give a balance to the lives of the families here in Australia and our troops in Afghanistan. The skill and courage shown by the Chinook helicopter pilots and their crew and the conditions that they are working under was shown in such detail. The medical staff working under difficult conditions and the poignant and final last farewell on the tarmac, of a lost soldier heading home. Indeed , this was a show that all Australians should have watched and be proud of our men and women in all overseas countries serving Australia.

  7. Are you kidding me? This beats Border Security hands down. Should have had an entire series dedicated to C Squadron, rather than a 1 hour special, hardly does justice to 5 months of filming.

  8. Well done to the troops, your efforts do not go un-noticed by many of us, you should be proud. Well done Channel 7 as well for showing the human side of this conflict.

  9. Looking forward to it, I think it’ll be a great opportunity for viewers to gain insight into just how much our Aussie troops sacrifice in order to not only help out the afghan people, but also how they fight for the future of a free Australia.

  10. I agree somewhat with Kitten – bit of a stretch linking this special to Border – obviously they thought it wouldn’t do well as a standalone special so they tacked the Border Security name onto it.

I for one am interested enough to record this one while I watch Your Gen. Sounds like it could be rather interesting.

  11. Absolutely nothing at all to do with the show’s theme. Pointless, a waste of time, and almost undoubtedly the result of outside influence.

Bowler, meanwhile, isn’t involved in any other process on this show aside from the voiceover booth and the bank.
