Renewed: Smallville

Smallville defies kryptonite cancellation and gets a renewal from the CW Network.

The CW has renewed Smallville for a 10th season.

10 seasons is quite a feat in television these days, and even better given many presumed it would die after the exit of Michael Rosenbaum.

Insiders confirm there will be a full 22-episode order but there is no word if it will be designed as a final season.

Despite starting out as a series set on the Kansas farm, the show has recently shifted the action to Metropolis as the young Clark graduates into becoming Superman.

Will this be the year he becomes Superman? And will it ever return to Free to Air? That would really be a superhuman feat.

The CW previously renewed Gossip Girl, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and 90210.

  1. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ten have lost the rights, if they still haven’t screened season 8 and Warner Bros got fed up and issued it on Aus DVD, hence why Nine should acquire the show for Go.

  2. Smallville is my favourite tv show so this is super news. Also it’s good to see a dvd and blu-ray release of season 8 despite it not airing on tv. If only it happened more often.

  3. Have Ten sold first run rights to Fox8? Because it makes sense. They’re in the middle of Season 7 now and Ten are doing nothing with it so give them to someone who has treated the series well.

  4. You can guess how Aus fans are watching the show. Ten screened season 7 on 10HD, but not anything more. Season 8 is on Aus DVD. Normally a show has to air first before it gets a local DVD release. It’d be good if Nine could get
the rights to the show back, that they onsold to Ten.

  5. The Season 8 Dvd Boxset of “Smallville” is getting released in Australia on March 31st.

Season 8 eps of “Smallville” premieres on Fox8 in April.

  6. @Michael Actually Smallville still does quite well in the ratings. It gets in the high 2 millions live and then usually passes 3 million after 7 day timeshift. For a small network like The CW that’s pretty good.

As for One Tree Hill, I’ve heard it is going to be a battle between OTH and Life Unexpected, both of which I love. Unfortunately we’ve got a long running show which isn’t rating anywhere near it’s original seasons (Although no CW show is these days) up against a fresh new series which has around the same ratings. So it really could go either way.

  7. Oh no! I was really hoping this would be the last season. It has become very convoluted but I am stubborn and want to see it through to its conclusion. I hope Heroes is not renewed for it too has become a mishmash.

  8. I am currently watching season 7 on FOX8 and hopefully I would make significant progress if not up to date by the time season 10 gets its first airing.

  9. Wow! Amazing achievement!
It is still a very strong series, and surprisingly adaptable with the loss of key characters … and as long as Tom Welling is an Exec Producer it will be safe to continue …
I love all the Justice League stuff as it gives it a much broader future … and the perfect spin-off!
    Jack!

  10. I agree fan would be up to date already, if TEN was to air it now they would be several seasons behind, what was the last episode or season to air on TEN? They would need to show it 5 or 7 nights a week just to catch up before the end of S10

Yes the quality is done but the current season has picked up IMO but it will be nice to know S10 is the end and then get some closure, maybe the final scene is superman in his usual cape and tights as he flys off in to the sunset?

  11. Excellent news regarding “Smallville” getting a 10th season!. Let’s hope well see more of the JSA & JLA in s10!!. I now await news regarding if “OTH” will get an 8th season?.

  12. No big surprise given Tom (Welling) is one of the show runners these days, probably snuck into Dawn Ostroff’s office for a chat, I couldn’t imagine the great woman yelling, “Get out of my office Welling”. 😀

It’s not kids show anymore, some of the S9 eps, like Conspiracy are a tad risqué, mind you Lois does scrub up pretty good in her ‘smalls’ after some torture. 8)

As for TEN, again, too late folks, the diehard fans are right up-to-date

  13. Oh no! This means I need to tolerate another 22 episodes. I find it hard to disassociate myself from a series which I once thouroughly enjoyed to something which has become a tv burden.
I bet we still wont see the blue and red superman outfit with cape in season 10.
Where as House I dropped because I was never that keen on it anyway.

Hopefully Melrose gets renewed, but I doubt it.
