Rosie O’Donnell for TV return

Rosie O'Donnell is set to syndicate a talk show next year just as Oprah Winfrey bows out.

Rosie O’Donnell is on the road back to TV, set to return in 2011.

Producers Dick Robertson and Scott Carlin, confirmed reports that they have formed a company with her to syndicate a talk show to TV stations beginning in September 2011, the same month The Oprah Winfrey Show ends.

O’Donnell says it wouldn’t be like her old show with celebrities promoting stuff, but a one hour topic-based show that allows her to sit and chat in depth. Could it possibly be like the pioneer Phil Donahue who dissected hot subjects and hosted balanced debates before the US talk genre descended into trailer trash fights and makeovers?

When Barbara Walters, her former co-panellist on The View asked about a timeslot, O’Donnell reckons she joked about taking Oprah‘s timeslot, which The View is supposedly keen to nab.

Apparently she was just stirring things up.

Pity it wasn’t Elisabeth Hasselbeck…

  1. “Could it possibly be like the pioneer Phil Donahue”
It very well could be…but without the talent. Comparing her to Phil Donahue. Is just as pathetic as comparing Adam Lambert to Freddy Mercury. Which some idiots in the “entertainment news” are doing.

  2. Rosie is her own worst enemy. She was great on The View, until she started launching personal attacks (Donald Trump) and making statements she refused to qualify (who are the terrorists?).

I happen to agree with most of her views, but sadly, she gets blinded by her own passion and often achieves the opposite result of what she sets out to do.

  3. @ Kevin Unleavened “Isn’t Rosie like . . . you know – barking mad?”

You mean like Bill O’Reilley or Shaun Hannity or god forbid the total nutter Glen Beck…

  4. I saw Rosie on ‘Rachael Ray’ interviewing her,she is a joy and very professional interviewer. I was thinking that she should redo her show when Oprah leaves….and Bam it happens..

“I do believe that it’s the first time in history that fire has ever melted steel. I do believe that it defies physics that World Trade Center tower 7—building 7, which collapsed in on itself—it is impossible for a building to fall the way it fell without explosives being involved. World Trade Center 7. World Trade [Center] 1 and 2 got hit by planes—7, miraculously, the first time in history, steel was melted by fire. It is physically impossible.”
