Worm off the dial for Rudd

Whether it was Worm or Polliegraph, Nine or Seven .... swinging voters appear to have given the Leaders' Debate to Kevin Rudd.

Whether it was Worm or Polliegraph, Nine or Seven …. swinging voters appear to have given the Leaders’ Debate to Kevin Rudd.

These photos of both leaders on rival networks were just snapped just seconds apart. In the case of the Channel Nine Worm, swinging voters pushed it off the dial and past the  + mark.

Nine voters gave the PM the win by 71% to 29% for the Opposition Leader.

Were all these swinging voters really that swinging…?

  1. @ super opinion – nice lol..even 7 agree nothing is lower then their news 🙂

Clear win to Rudd IMO and Abbott lost it completely when he sunk to laughing that dorky laugh of his while Rudd was trying to speak..

  2. Tony and his bad jokes reminded me of some the smarmy blokes at the office Christmas Party. Tony should have flashed us his budgie smugglers. At least that would ensure that he stays in the news, one way or another.

  3. @ Ryan. Next you’ll be telling us that the australian, perth now, the daily telegraph and the rest of the Murdoch papers, never have a right leaning in their reporting, opinions or commentary? Let me guess, Piers Akerman will write an unbiased opinion piece tomorrow where he believes that Kevin Rudd lost the debate too and Tony Abbott is on his way to winning the next election. Hilarious.

  4. I really don’t understand the need for the worm. It’s an insult to viewers in a way. It says: “We think you’re too stupid to make up your own minds, so you might need some assistance.”

  5. Will comrade Con(man)roy be providing the networks with another cash injection for this “support”? The whole thing was about Rudd V Abbott, not about voters, patients, doctors, beds or anything else!

  6. I cannot imagine anything worse than sitting through a commerically televised debate (on 7 and 9 no less) between two loud mouths desperate to score points off the lowest common denominators. So I didn’t 🙂

  7. The worm is rubbish as an indication of anything – it’s just makes great TV.

Meanwhile, Abbott is his own worst enemy and just came off as smarmy. That’s not to say I didn’t want to kick Rudd in the shins several times.

  8. Whilst the worm is certainly not an accurate polling method – Abbott was indeed the underdog. He replaced debating with negativity and bad jokes.

On another note, I find it interesting comparing the worms – 9 has a positive and negative sign, whereas for 7 if you’re going poorly, you just go down to “7 News” level. 😉

  9. Tony Abbott looked like and sounded like the annoying guy at the end of the bar who has had too much to drink. Nothing much to say, just happy to argue that the sky is red. When Mr Abbott strayed into areas that weren’t health realated he got hammered. His style was aweful and his agressive nature showed through. The PM can be seen as too smooth at times but he gets his point across and thats why he will trounce Mr Abbott at every debate.

  10. I think Rudd won the debate, he was prepared & didn’t resort to negativity for the most part. But, the worm didn’t go up when Abbott did have some good criticism. I think there was a bias in the worm towards Rudd though he would have won anyway. There needs to be more transparency when it comes to who is selected & where the participants are from that partake in the worm activity otherwise it won’t be taken seriously in the future.

  11. Well it wasn’t really fair – Abbott had no polices to release so could not give any alternative. All he could do was just be negative and throw in a lame dad joke.

  12. @PD absolutely agree with you. I got to the stage of just laughing at the worm. It really is a distraction and unfortunately stopped me from really listening to the ‘debate’.

  13. Tony Abbott could have been on a winner with his ‘Kevin Rudd can’t be trusted’ spiel, if he hadn’t completely neglected to tell voters why they should trust him instead.

    Labor: 1, Liberal: 0.

  14. Are you people seriously trying to say that it was all a conspiracy and that Seven and Nine couldn’t find any ‘real’ swinging voters? Are you the same people who were trying to tell us at teh last election that John Howard would be re-elected and Kevin Rudd had no chance? Hmm, maybe Tony ‘people skills’ Abbott would be wise to concentrate on policy and what people actually want, rather than just try to be a carbon copy of John Howard.

  15. It didn’t help that every time Rudd spoke he said what Labor would do, yet every time Abbott spoke he made a terrible joke and bad mouthed Rudd and didn’t say what he would do. The worm got it right. Abbott was disgraceful.

  16. Krudd is a complete loser and thanks to you labor supporters we now have hundreds of billions of dollars in debt!!! Also Krudd looks like Mr sheen and the milkybar kid! lol

  17. It was almost as if everybody was just being soothed by Kevin’s voice. Every time Abbott opened his mouth the worm just started nose diving. He could have said “free candy for everybody” and the thing would have tumbled.
