MasterChef wins third night

Wednesday was one tough night, but TEN's cooking contest rose like a souffle for its third straight win, while The Pacific also sailed to victory.

MasterChef Australia has won its third straight night, pulling 1.6m viewers.

On an enormously competitive night, the cooking contest again ranked #1, thumping Hey Hey It’s Saturday (1.2m) and Dog Squad (1.01m), Crash Investigation Unit (978,000).

But there was a significant switch off for So You Think You Can Dance Australia which netted 1.07m / 1.04m for its Finale and Winner Announced.

Both were beaten by The Pacific (1.46m) which helped the Seven Network to win the night.

Against such tough competition Lowdown premiered to 545,000 on the ABC while Spicks and Specks had to settle for 966,000.

Some media reports that wrote off Masterchef‘s premiere as a disappointing number may have spoken too soon. At this rate it could be headed for a winning streak of five straight nights at #1.

UPDATED: The Pacific replayed 2pm Wed April 28.

  1. Great ratings. Expected the week to get progessively less ratings but it went up, and the figures are phenomenal. And the show is still as exciting and interesting as it was last year.

  2. @Benjamin, no thanks. Live shows like Hey Hey need to be around for local and overseas talent to appear on. Masterchef go read a cooking book or look up online recipes. The Pacific catch it on DVD or re-runs (as I have been doing luckily enough), those CSI episodes can be caught on DVD or any another way as well.

I don’t mind Hey Hey going back to it’s original night (Saturday) but to go.. no way.. we need it. Rove left, Hey Hey is all we got especially with no variety from Micallef this year.

  3. Love the Heraldsun quoted you David!

But I’m not sure if Jackie can do much, I’m betting HeyHey might hold 1.2 next week but slowly slip to the 1mill mark in coming weeks.

It’s just a shame with MC doing so well TEN still can’t win a night!

  4. The reign of vinatge nostaglia for the 80’s has finally lost its shine, it’s time to move on to new & fresh shows!. Ch 9 is willing be to butchered & minced in the tv ratings by going up against Ch 10’s mega hit of “Masterchef”.

Hey Ch 9, ditch Hey, Hey & replace with new eps of CSI s10 & CSI NY s6, so we can catch up to the american viewers on all 3 csi shows!.

  5. It’ll be interesting to see what happens once timeshifted numbers are taken into account. I was watching Masterchef and DVRing Hey Hey, which I caught up with this morning. And I’ll be DVRing Spicks and Specks on the ABC2 replay tonight while watching Masterchef! Great to see everyone so enthusiastic from the get go – it sounds like this year’s finale might smash last year’s amazing figures?

  6. Masterchef and The Pacific. Hey, a rare occasion when I’ve been watching the highest-rating shows! The Pacific set in Melbourne was more enjoyable than the first two episodes.

  7. I got well and truly hooked by season 1 of MasterChef. I’m trying to maintain my enthusiasm for season 2, but how seriously hyped up are some of these contestants? Nervous energy is one thing, but some of these people must be on an all caffeine diet. I cringed a number of times during last night’s episode.

  8. I got home last night and my housemate’s girlfriend was watching SYTYCD. I couldn’t believe how long they managed to drag out that finale, and the shrill shreaking voice of Nat Bass is so annoying. This is the first time I have watched any of the show, and it really put me off ever wanting to watch it next year.

  9. Heh, was going to ask you in the TV Lounge if you would be updating the Week 17 ratings 🙂

Nice win for Masterchef, be interested in seeing where it settles… surely it can’t keep up anything like this for the entirety of the run…

  10. I have to thank 7 & 9 for reminding me it was on. I guess the finger pointing of ACA and Today Tonight overlooked their own “stars” such as Matthew Newton and Matthew Johns.

  11. Another great result for Masterchef. The 7pm Project hasn’t received as big a boost as I expected. Despite its many fans on this site, IMO it’s still fairly ordinary.
Glad to see Hey Hey continue its slide. Only Melbourne keeping it afloat. When will they desert this sinking ship?
