Natalie Barr and Weekend at Bernie’s

Slightly awkward moment on Sunrise this morning with that bizarre news story about two British women trying to disguise a dead relative aboard a plane Weekend-at-Bernie‘s style.
The two women were arrested for trying to get their deceased 91 yr old relative onto an easyJET flight from Liverpool in a wheelchair and sunglasses, until airport staff wised up. They were later arrested.
In reading the news story this morning Natalie Barr couldn’t hold back her mirth, which drew a number of viewer emails. One read out by David Koch even reckons she “seems to laugh at other people’s expense.”
Thankfully, Sunrise advises it also had a slew of supporting emails:
– Give Nat a break, newsreaders are human and that story was bloody funny!
– Nat you are brilliant. I have never emailed the show but you need to know that segment made my morning. Keep laughing its refreshing in the morning.
– i think its so stupid picking on a news reporter for heavens sakes since when is it a crime to have a good old laugh ?
– I think Natalie Barr did a great job reading the news this morning. I was laughing with her, and thought the story was amusing.

How can someone look so good when getting up so early every week day for so many years? Natalie Barr, along with being a great news reader you are also a beautiful woman. Long may Nat rule the Sunrise news desk.
The girls on The Circle were worse! but also very funny.
man that was the most pathetic attempt to laugh!
it was mildly funny. but the today skit with wii was 2 billions times more funnier and it made on international tv. has this yet
I think people need to ease up a bit. This is one of the reasons why the Australia television audience is lame. Obviously no one can take a joke. I found it funny.
But let me ask this. Did all the balding australian viewers get upset by that guys joke for one of the sunrise tshirts “The bald and the beautiful”.
I would have loved to have seen the part where just the image of the old guy was showing, I wana see her face and laughter then!!
That made my morning!!!
Good on ya Nat!!
Viewers were sending in Sunrise ‘slogans’ this morning and one of them was ‘Sorry about Kochie’ – oh man you should have seen his face!
Mel & Nat were wetting themsleves so of course Kochie had to have a dig at Nat ‘you can’t even read the news without laughing’
Big baby Kochie lacks a sense of humour me thinks.
Geez, it’s not like she laughed during a report on the road toll or an earthquake. It’s a ridiculous story and i bet those who emailed to complain were laughing during the report themselves.
This was very very funny.
The thing is the first email is right, she has done stuff like this before and it doesn’t come off as very professional. But I’ve never held that show to a high standard any way.
love ya Nat!!
Watched it twice and laughed both times. Nat is a great newsreader and anyway the whole Sunrise team broke up. No apologies needed. Needless to say some Politically Correct person just had to complain…..
If you can’t find that funny there’s gotta be something wrong with you. She would have had a bunch of crew behind the camera smirking in the lead up to it- there’s no way you couldn’t laugh! Lighten up people
thats gold, love your work Nat…
why did that letter just criticising Natalie, mel and kochie where laughing too.
I thought it was understandable, I mean they knew the guy was dead, it’s not like he dropped dead waiting in line or something.
BTW did Nine cover the same story?
why were people just criticising Natalie, mel and kochie where laughing too, mel was even laughing during the complaints.
Nat, you don’t need to apologise for Anything! I am so please you show your sense of humour.
If any one was disrespectful it was his relatives!
Hate sunrise and Kochie, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with what she did.
I saw it. Totally hilarious. Good on Nat – I would’ve lost it, too!
There is a huge difference between laughing at a tragic accident or murder, and laughing at an absurd farce of two people carting a dead body around pretending it was still alive. How can that not amuse you? I think we can expect similar giggles about it on the 7PM Project tonight.
That’s funny as! A story like that… how could you not laugh!
Still, not laughing about dead people really is Newsreader 101.
+ 200 comments on the sunrise facebook page, all backing Nat.
