Comedian Tony Martin will guest direct episodes in the third season of The Librarians which begins shooting in Melbourne today.
Returning to the Middleton Interactive Learning Centre are Robyn Butler, Wayne Hope, Roz Hammond, Heidi Arena, Keith Brockett, Nicole Nabout, Stephen Ballantyne and Bob Franklin.
Joining the third season is Angus Sampson plus several yet-to-be revealed guest performers.
This season Frances’ mother Pearl (Victoria Eagger), suffering from both dementia, lands on the O’Brien doorstep. Morale at the library is at a new all time low, with a high ranking government official (Angus Sampson) forcing the library to run as a profitable business.
Robyn Butler said, “I am so looking forward to making The Librarians 3, mainly because it will stop me watching MasterChef and worrying whether Matt’s going to eat George.”
ABC TV Executive Producer Debbie Lee says, “We’re thrilled to have Robyn and Wayne once again bringing the fabulous characters and unique world of the Middleton Interactive Learning Centre to life. Our audience is in for a real treat.”

Season 3 is 8 episodes and the scripts are the best yet! We should lobby ABC to bring back Very Small Business as well.
That’s good stuff!
Is Tony really prepared for the directing once again of the laid back Bob Franklin?
Can’t wait for this season and hope he makes another cameo (as the gay guy with funky hair and sans glasses).
David, do you know whether we’ll ever see another series of ‘Very Small Business’? We’ve been waiting a long time and with every new series of ‘The Librarians’ it appears less and less likely we’ll ever see the Butler/Hope duo resurrect the wonderful ‘Very Small Business’.
What a sneakily excellent and often shocking show this is. It drew me in very slowly, but it’s a cracker.
What would be pure gold if the ABC schedule the show inbetween The Brittas Empire and Birds Of A Feather. (Tony Martin ‘loves’ those shows)
oh god! :S
Great news, love the Librarians! But (as others have mentioned) I also want to see Very Small Business and Hollowmen back. Don’t want much for my 8c per day do I? 😉
Can’t wait for a new season of this show. “Our country, our rules” LOL
Hopefully there’s an Ed Kavalee cameo.
Maybe selling dixie ice creams in Bay 13 at the MCG.
This is one of the greatest shows since kath and kim. I really can’t wait, its the greatest, and the storyline sounds good as well.
Any word on how many episodes? It’s a pity its usually only 6..
Tony Martin directing comedy back at the ABC. This is dizzy stuff folks.
Words can’t describe how happy I am that this is coming back!
Cledan?! What are you, dyslexic?
Fantastic. One of the best scripted Australian comedies of recent years.
This is a great show very under rated, anyone know when shift and swift( hope i got the order right then!!) comes back to SBS?
Later this year for S&SC.
Would prefer a new series of Very Small Business instead.
good to see the show returning. now lets hope hollowmen and gruen transfer return as well.
In the 2nd paragraph, you refer to everyone as the actors, except for Robyn Butler! ‘Frances O”Brien’…
Can’t wait for it to come back on!! The ensemble is great.
Anthony… yep she’s that convincing! Clearly an editing slip, thanks.
Gruen is back in June.
Can’t wait. It’s a tops show.
Awesome. Tony Martin is so great.
Wow I think I completely missed Season 2 🙁 I really enjoyed Season 1; when did Season 2 even air; but yay good news on Season 3.
*Wanders off to check if Season 2 is on dvd*
I’ve loved this show since day one and i’m thrilled that it’s back for a 3rd season.
At least the ABC can do something right for once
Lachy Hulme (Let’s Get Skase, Hollowmen, Chandon Pictures) is confirmed as one of the guest stars on the 3rd season.
SG 🙂
Yay! Dry humour at its best. Bring it on!
