A fire broke out at GTV9 studios in Richmond on Wednesday causing staff and stars to be evacuated.

A fire broke out at GTV9 studios in Richmond this afternoon.

Staff were evacuated after a fire is believed to have been started by a drape ignited by lighting inside the studio ahead of tonight’s Hey Hey It’s Saturday.

The fire was believed to have been small but caused a lot of smoke through the building, sending staff and stars into the Nine car park.

The fire is said to have started around 2pm today. Fire brigade arrived to attend to the incident.

A Nine source told TV Tonight, “It was only probably a small fire, but there was a fair bit of smoke and at one stage there was a concern fire may have penetrated the walls.

“It started in Studio 9 but the smoke spread further than that on the ground floor and I think up to Presentation Control as well.”

Smoke is still lingering in the building.

Tonight’s Hey Hey episode is due to air live to air at 7:30pm tonight.

The Heritage-listed GTV site, built as the Wertheim Piano Factory in 1908,  is to be vacated by Nine after being sold, ahead of a shift to Melbourne’s Docklands.

ABC one two and SBS one two three..and so on Pay TV DVD’s, the list goes on and on…so plenty of choice there…we know you dont like it…but please just read a book or change the channel…but just stop whinging

  2. It’s unfortunate that the fire didn’t allow tonight’s show to be cancelled. Can’t believe throwing paper airplanes is now considered entertainment on a national TV show. Hey Hey it’s time to go again.

  11. Hey Hey is not original, it reheated 20 yo leftovers because Nine doesn’t have anything better to produce.

    Not only is Masterchef setting the TV ratings on fire but Gtv9 as well… the reach of this show is phenomenal

  22. Tonight’e episode was in need of something going wrong.

    With the first episode, it was the website malfunctioning.
    With the second episode, it was the cancellation of Wolfmother.
    With the third episode, it was the cancellation of Jacki MacDonald.

    I am sure this event will be brought up numerous times (if not definitely at least once) during tonight’s show.

  23. Is this a way to boost hey hey ratings for tonight. Burn some curtains so people will tune in to see what is said and what the set looks likes
