Hugh, Axle, Darren up for X Factor host

Hugh Sheridan, Axle Whitehead and MTV Australia's Darren McMullen are in the running to host The X Factor.

Hugh Sheridan from Packed to the Rafters, Axle Whitehead from Home and Away and MTV Australia’s Darren McMullen are in the running to host The X Factor, according to news.com.au.

Seven’s head of programming and production, Tim Worner, said the network was close to signing a presenter.

“We are on to that right now,” he said.

On Friday night Seven announced Natalie Imbruglia, Ronan Keating, Guy Sebastian and Kyle Sandilands would judge the new version of the show, following continued speculation.

“We felt that there’s no big light event shows around and that this is the best of them,” Worner said.

“We’ve seen what Australia’s Got Talent has done in heavy traffic and feel it’s the right opportunity for the show.”

In its Press Release, Seven also noted “Irish singer Keating began his career with the boyband Westlife.”

But Keating actually started in Boyzone, although he was later a co-manager of Westlife with longtime manager Louis Walsh. Walsh became a judge on the UK’s X Factor.

Keating has also been a guest judge on the UK’s X Factor.

Seven’s show will air later this year with a live weekly episode.

  1. Axle and Hugh have day jobs so if it’s a live show I don’t think it would work if they working on night shifts for H&A and Rafters.. Which leaves Darren but I can’t stand the up himself git!

  2. It has to be Axle. Darren could handle it but might be a boit ‘out there’ for Seven and I don’t think Hugh would be right for this at all.

  3. Im with Justin – Danny Clayton would definately be a perfect fit for this. But Darren McMullen would be my pick of the names given here.

As ive said before on this website, im not a huge fan of reality television. But if Seven can pull this off and make it the dazzling spectacle that it is in the UK, i would seriously be impressed.

  4. By process of elimination, I would want Darren to get it but history suggests a Ch7 personality will get it. Most likely Hugh Sheridan. Whoever it is, please just let the performers perform. It’s really annoying how AGT has to cut to Grant Denyer every 5 seconds to make some inane comment or facial expression during the acts.

  5. This is just weird. First a strange combo of 3 male judges and only one female (?) Then the rushed dates including the appl. form just released plus the error in the press release. How many judges turned them down?
Besides XF is almost over now. Time for something new..!

  6. I’d really rather Darren!!! He’s already a great host and has a great sense of humour. Axle would be ok, but I don’t think he’s as appealing as Darren and Hugh should stick with acting.

  7. don’t rate those 3 at all… i would have gone for someone like Danny Clayton from Channel [V] or Luke Jacobz (best thing about Popstars Live)

  8. I hope its not Axel, he comes across as thinking he is a little too cool for school, i had never heard of Darren, but just watched his show reel and i think he is perfect, he seems natural on camera and seems to have a bit of music cred. It will be a nerve wrecking role as the host could make or break the show.

I would love it if they got Brian Friedman in from UX X Factor to be the choreographer, although I’m sure he would be too expensive and I’m guessing its going to run during the same time as X Factor UK.

It would have been good if they could have got it up and running for winter as opposed to summer as i think more people seem to be in during the winter months to watch TV.
