Airdate: Treme

The Showcase channel lands another critical hit with Treme, from The Wire's David Simon, set to air in July.

The Showcase channel continues to attract the best in US drama with Treme from David Simon (The Wire, Generation Kill) and Eric Overmyer (Law & Order, New Amsterdam) set to air in July.

Set in New Orleans following the Hurricane Katrina disaster, the drama features a group of musicians who rise up to play songs of hope and rebirth.

From David Simon (The Wire, Generation Kill) and Eric Overmyer (Law & Order, New Amsterdam), this new drama series takes place during the rebuilding of post- Katrina New Orleans, and focuses on how a group of residents rebuild their lives through the enduring music and cultural traditions that make them, and the city, so unique. The title of the series (pronounced “Truh-may”) refers to one of New Orleans’ oldest neighbourhoods, an important centre of African-American and Creole culture, especially music. Season 1 of Treme begins three months after Katrina, and culminates around the Carnival season. In addition to capturing the flavour and rich heritage of New Orleans, the series highlights the role of the city in the interconnected personal stories of the musicians, teachers, restaurateurs, radio deejays, and community leaders we meet. One of these stories, which unfolds over the course of the entire season, involves a mother’s frustrating search for her son, who disappeared during the hurricane.

The 10 part series premieres 8:30pm Wednesday July 14.

  1. This is going to be great!
I’ll never give up my Foxtel sub while they bring us such excellent programs, despite all the ads on stations like Fox8 (which is worse than FTA).
    Showcase is the best channel!
    No ads, great programs.
