Brothers and Sisters finale spoiled
Monday's season finale of Brothers and Sisters has a big finish. Most of which was given away by Seven's promos.

Another case of network promos going too far?
You bet.
Tonight’s season finale of Brothers and Sisters has a big finish. Most of which was given away by Seven’s promos.
Seriously.
Lucky these people don’t get their hands on The Sixth Sense or The Crying Game.

For sure David, you never said how Rob Lowe’s character was departing. I was just agreeing with everyone else that I don’t think the ending was spoiled because everyone knew Rob Lowe was leaving.
Unless……………we all know he’s leaving so maybe someone else dies as well????? Hmmmm………..
Will it be back next year on 7?
I can’t remember if this was posted here, but when someone in Packed to the Rafters had a baby, and apparently the gender was a plot point or something (I don’t watch it, so I don’t know how important it was or wasn’t), Prime was running ads showing the baby and saying “Is it a boy or a girl?” as the draw to get people watching. I don’t think it worked very well, considering they showed pink balloons in the ad that said “It’s A Girl” on them…
I agree with Kylie.
It was so widely reported that Rob was leaving, it was obvious his character wouldn’t survive that episode.
I’m usually one who hates the spoilers that most stations give us,
but I didn’t have a problem with Ch 7 this time. (amazingly! LOL)
Agree with Catherine – I don’t think anything was spoiled because its been widely reported (also on this site in March) that Rob Lowe was leaving, so it really was no surprise that it was he who died.
Kylie, I do report if an actor is leaving a show yes (including Rob Lowe). I didn’t disclose if his character was being killed off or departing, let alone how.
Ten has a bad habit of doing’ misleading’ promos- take House- the promo said, House made a mistake, with the guy’s heart stopping- assuming he has died. Which he didn’t!
Ten is a real pain- not to mention the mis-leading NCIS promos.
This is why I change channels as soon as an ad break starts, it’s not just to not see ads…
Former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies at one time said about the make-up of a Doctor Who Next Time trailer is that it does not include what happens in an episode in the last ten minutes.
That is definitely the guideline our networks should be having when making up their own trailers.
@AngryFace – I was always of the opinion that promo departments don’t watch the full episodes in context before making their promos, just cut out interesting scenes. But from what you’ve said I’m starting to think they don’t watch any part of the episodes besides the last ten minutes :/
Now added a poll on this subject on the home page.
(Spoilers for Merlin and House up to and including episodes aired on Sunday 13th June on Australian TV)
It seems that spoiling shows is the “in thing” at the moment.
The last few weeks of Merlin were spoiled in the ads (on TEN), showing things that didn’t happen until the last 10 minutes. Last nights episode had Uther and Arthur swordfighting against each other in the promos, which didn’t happen until the last 10 minutes of the episode. A couple weeks earlier had a promo of the troll and Merlin casting spells at each other, which didn’t happen until the last 10 minutes.
It isn’t just limited to Merlin. Also on TEN last night was House. Not as much of a spoiler as the Merlin spoilers, but they said something about House giving a completely wrong diagnosis. So when the episode was nearing the end, and House had a realisation and made a diagnosis that I assumed was correct, I then remembered he would be wrong. (Which he was.) I know he often makes diagnosises that are wrong, but it was close enough to the end of the episode that it would be safe to assume it was finally the correct one. (But it wasn’t, and the ad said so).
still scarred by what they did with Bones…
@pelrto- dont forget it aired twice a week for a while (mon and tuesday) and had a double or two as well so they have gone through all 24 episodes
To me ch7 hasn’t ruined the ending. Its not hard to find out what happens. You can watch the ep on you tube or read the websites. Everybody knows Rob Lowe is leaving. So its not rocket science to tell you what happens.
@pietro, they had a few double episodes earlier this year, this is episode 24. a lot of the shows that started 6 months after the US premiers are finishing before the fasttracked shows this year. 30rock, Private practice, Grey’s Anatomy too are finishing before the mentalist, NCIS, Big Bang, FlashForward ect.
This is one of the reasons why I don’t watch “live” TV anymore. My solution: record shows and watch them without commercials and promos (aka spoilers).
unless there is another promo, i dont think they didn’t give away that much. i assume you are talking about showing the car crash and saying someone wouldn’t make it? seemed like a pretty standard hookline reveal to me.
Call me crazy, but I really don’t see the fuss about finding out what happens before the show goes to air. I mean, you’re going to find out sooner or later, and it’s not going to significantly damage the ratings either.
I remember them doing exactly the same with Grey’s Anatomy Final, revealing it was George hit by the bus.
They also spoiled the Amazing Race with the promo showing the winners doing a little victory jump running into Candle Stick Park. They are the worst!
Clearly they are hoping for ratings, rather than keep the surprise!!
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t 7 showing series 4? There are 24 eps. in this series and I don’t think 7 is anywhere near the end.
All promo and scheduling teams should be fired!!
I thought they would use US promotions. Why wouldn’t they??
Seven also spoiled the second last episode of The Amazing Race with their promo showing which three teams made it to the finale – thus revealing which team were eliminated in the penultimate episode.
7 gave away no more than what the ABC did youtube.com/watch?v=-JS6T3I3Q50
Steve: then I reckon ABC spoiled it too.
