Skye eliminated from MasterChef

One of the Favourites has been cut from the MasterChef contest.

Skye Craig has been cut from the MasterChef contest.

The 35 year old Queensland Art Director was considered one of the Favourites to take out the competition.

But she named a spice incorrectly in a challenge against Jonathan.

While he correctly named Cloves, Skye opted for Garam Masala.

The mistake cost her a place in the competition.

The first round saw contestants reproducing a chicken korma curry, with the two least impressive contestants going through to a ‘name that spice’ round.

“I’m extremely disappointed because I really felt I was just getting to the point where I was comfortable with high end cooking,” she says. “My goal was to make the Top 10 – and I just missed out. I had more to offer I think, and I was just starting to come into my own.

“It was not a good day for me to be in a taste test. I was starting to get sick with the flu and my taste buds were out.

“I was really concerned about going into the second round against Jonathan because he’s extremely technical,” admits Skye, who named a spice as garam masala when it was cloves. “I was right to be worried.”

  1. if they do the wildcards again, then they should stage a battle for the eliminated contestants so the winner of the pack can rejoin. last year it was very strange where out of nowhere justine and poh just rocked up at a challenge a week after they were eliminated.

  2. @brisvegas – I am fairly certain last night was the third elimination round Joanne has been in. She was in the taste test one with Jake last week, the elimination round where Jimmy got canned, then last night.

Personally, I hope that they don’t do the “wildcard” re-entries this year once we get to the final four. In my opinion, if you’re legitimately eliminated, that’s it, you’re gone. However, I’m sure they will do it again for dramatic license. If that is the case, I’m willing to bet the house that Skye will be one fo the wildcards. The judges liked her too much and judging from what I read on the MasterChef forum, she is a viewer favourite. It is more than possible that we haven’t seen the last of her.

  3. @Daniel: I think we can safely assume that the judge’s comments which are shown aren’t their full opinion, otherwise it would be quite obvious whose dish was good/bad and we wouldn’t hang around to find out who won/lost. Your quantitative analysis is therefore probably flawed.

  4. If Joanne wins this competition, I’ll stop watching the show. She’s not a team player, and I’ve begun to notice how she doesnt get terribly involved with the cooking side of the team challenges. She just seems very fake. She tries to come across as all motherly, but i think all the other contestants know how she rolls.

Initially I didnt like jonathan either, but i’ve had more and more respect for the guy. He gets along with the “nicer” people in the group – she he must not be tooo bad. Besides, he really knows his stuff. It’s insane how he has had to go into 5 eliminations to get where he is, while a hack like Joanne can just breeze through with (if im not mistaken) just the one?

I think it’ll be an Adam-Jonathan-Claire-Marion final. The big question is who’s coming back in a few weeks. Half way through the competition and we’re really running out of contestants……so i’m guessing there will be some wild-card re-entries.

  5. Love Jonathon, he’s great. Having survived five elimination tests, they should just crown him the MasterChef now – he deserves it after the pain he’s been through!

Shame about Skye, she was one of the more talented cooks left, but she was rightly in the bottom two last night for delivering a sub-standard dish. I prefer the way they eliminate contestants this year. I absolutely hated the Survivor style, peer voting system they had last year, where contestants could gang up in voting blocs to get rid of someone. Ugghh! The way it is done now, with the judges deciding the bottom two or three, is much fairer.

  6. What I want to know is how Aaron wasn’t bottom two with Jonathan – his curry was not runny and was dry as hell. Skye did not deserve bottom two IMO.

  7. i crack up laughing when people suggest its rigged. Its so pathetic they say this because they didnt get their way. The fact is the show is looking for the best cooks, and the best cooks are left bar 1 or 2 and thats because of the style of elimination, its just bad luck skye got the taste test.

  8. I really hope they don’t go for the ‘bring contestants back’ option. It’ll undermine the already fading credibility of the show. Of course credibility or not I’m still somehow hooked and never miss an episode.

  9. This is so rigged. I looked at the episodes after Callum’s little slip up. And I noticed, that it is beginning to look like the Series 1 version [Alla Mirroring]. When Joanne was put up against Jake Matt was about to look at the closh and lift, but he opted for an explanation and then a drop out. When Joanne was then again out for it on Monday, she had 4 problems; Shell to nearly break Gary’s tooth, Grit, Over leaves and dressing and the potato crisp. Peter had 2 problems; Overdone oysters and crispy onions. How does one figure someone who makes 4 crucial mistakes rather than 2 continue. Then on Thursday I see that Johnathan is up for and well he managed to blow George’s head off [almost]. However Joanne managed to crate a soup of sorts and make it very yellow. Aaron managed a stand up spoon dish [Huey’s type]. Why weren’t these ones up for it. I mean Skye was just too saffron. Then when she said Garam Masala, she’s out. I know cloves as I’m a qualified chef. and they are not that light in colour! Garam Masala is. She also identified several other spices and well they are in the mix! I also kn ow when Adele did the bolognese she had a refined dish that was true to it’s test, Johnathan had a stew of sorts. I assume the way its going, by the time London is over wk9, we will see some returns like last yr, My guesses are Peter. Joanne said on Monday the last series had 4 up for crocembuche and Tom left, then returned. Poh left that Thursday week, missed the travel and well like Alvin he may go and return. I know that Joanne is also following a path very similar to Julie Goodwin’s. I assume her appearance on Sunday could mean Joanne has a win. Aaron is also been in 3 Celebrity cook offs, and Justine was about the same.If anything the finals will be Matthew [Julia], Callum [Lucas], Aaron [Justine], Johnathan [Chris], Alvin [Poh] and Joanne [Julie]! My goodness, this thing is set up!!

  10. @ tony – joanne has annoyed me as well but if she couldn’t cook the fact is she’d be gone by now. agreed she’d be voted off if they were doing that. anyway i’m a jonothan fan so go Eliminator!!

  11. I dislike Johnathan. He doesnt come across on TV as a pleasant person and he hasnt exactly impressed the food hes produced.

I really liked Skye; she was my tip to come second to Marion – the eliminations are fair but they are resulting in great cooks being sent home. Didnt want Peter out on Monday either. Wasnt Aarons the worst replica of the meal they were supposed to cook – his was rock hard?

  12. It’s a shame that some less deserving contestants still remain, and more deserving contestants have already been eliminated, sometimes on technicalities. That’s what I think ha happened here with Skye. But that’s the game, I suppose.

I do think the deserved winner of the competition is still in the running, I just haven’t decided who to narrow down my best guess to: Marion, Claire, or Adam.

  13. What a shame the pain-in-the-a**e mother Joanne is still there. She can’t cook and the constant balling is tiresome. What a shame they did away with the contestants voting each other off. She would have gone ages ago.

    1. Thanks: Incorrect. I have always waited until a show has aired. News of Skye’s exit is all through Twitter, messageboards and already published by newspaper websites. TV Tonight is no different. This has been stated many times in similar instances and is clearly stated on About page. A Spoiler alert is attached to content that has not aired.

  14. I’m gutted – she seems like such a great person and very talented

I like mose of the contestants that are left though so I imagine there will be many gutted nights ahead of me :p

  15. Oh.

I guess I should add TV Tonight together with all of Twitter as something I can’t look at in the evening anymore. Serious spoilers for WA viewers … it starts here in 30 minutes. 🙁

  16. i am kicking myself for coming here before i watched MC tonight skye was one of my faveourties and i was hoping that she wouldnt go first jake goes and now skye i really hope there is another chance for them to return like TBL
