Airdate: triple j’s One Night Stand 2010

Washington, Bluejuice, Gyroscope and The John Butler Trio feature in this concert from Alice Springs.

triple j presenters Rosie Beaton and The Doctor host triple j’s One Night Stand 2010 which took place before 6000 punters in Alice Springs.

The 90-minute special features exclusive interviews and performances from Washington, Bluejuice, Gyroscope and The John Butler Trio.

Former triple j Unearthed winner Washington performed her sweet indie melodies including favourites Cement and How To Tame Lions, while madmen Bluejuice rocked out their own genre-defying sound including the feverish tunes Keep it to Yourself, Broken Leg and Vitriol. Electric Perth four-piece Gyroscope took the gig into nightfall, performing at their most frenetic, energetic and inspired to the Alice Springs crowd.

Headline act for the evening was The John Butler Trio. Having only launched their new album April Uprising the day before the gig, this was a momentous occasion for the band, and a chance to road-test some new songs. The seasoned performers rocked from the opening moments as they electrified the crowd with a special concert version of Revolution.

Highlights from the entire triple j Presents series can be viewed online at abc.net.au/iview and triplej.net.au/live.

It airs 9:30pm Friday 27 August on ABC2.

  1. From a radio station so starved of decent funding that they milk every single event to death (Hottest 100, Oz Music Month, Unearthed) comes yet more repackaging of the bloody One Night Stand. It’s this endless repetition that’s made me finally give up on Triple J in the last few months.
