Airdate: triple j’s One Night Stand

It's music and comedy this weekend from St. Helens in Tasmania.

ABC will screen two showcases from triple j’s One Night Stand, which takes place on Saturday in St Helens, Tasmania.

First up is triple j’s One Night Stand Up on ABC Comedy. This is a a 30min showcase with Becky Lucas, Michael Hing, Gen Fricker, Craig Quartermaine, Veronica Milsom and Lewis Hobba.

Then ABC will screen the 90 minute One Night Stand concert with Vance Joy, Peking Duk, Tkay Maidza, Middle Kids and Alex the Astronaut.

Watch the hilarity unfold as six of your fave funny people take over the regional town of St Helens for one night only. Performing stand-up sets are some of Australia’s cleverest comedians, including Becky Lucas, Michael Hing, triple j’s Gen Fricker and Craig Quartermaine, triple j’s Drive hosts Veronica Milsom and Lewis Hobba have an impressive list of comedy credits between them, from writing and performing on ABC’s Hungry Beast, Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell and A Rational Fear, to performing live solo shows in The Melbourne and Sydney International Comedy Festivals.

Becky Lucas hardly needs an introduction, having spent years writing and performing critically acclaimed live stand-up comedy, as well as appearing in hit TV shows Comedy Up Late and Please Like Me and co-writing The Other Guy with Matt Okine.

From SBS Viceland’s The Feed and Free to a Good Home podcast, Michael Hing’s comedy nous spans from writer to TV and radio host and a regular on the stand-up circuit.

As well as making listeners laugh on a daily basis, triple j Lunch host Gen Fricker’s unique blend of musical comedy and sassy stand up has seen her sell out comedy shows at The Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Comedy Festivals.

After storming Edinburgh Fringe early in his career, journalist, comedian and TV writer Craig Quartermaine has gone on to perform stand up on stages around the world, and now ticks St Helens off his bucket list.

This year triple j’s One Night Stand concert comes to you from the Tasmanian town of St Helens.

Hosted by triple j Mornings presenter Linda Marigliano, One Night Stand features live performances from Vance Joy, Peking Duk, Tkay Maidza, Middle Kids and Alex the Astronaut, as well as a bunch of special guests. One Night Stand will screen as a special event, the day after the concert, 9:30pm Sunday 2 September on ABC and ABC iview.

triple j’s annual free, all ages concert provides the chance to experience live music in an area that’s not on the usual musical touring map. It’s also a chance for the rest of Australia to get to know a special part of the country and this year it’s the Tasmanian town of St Helens’ turn to shine. triple j will be live broadcasting the concert from 12pm on Saturday 1 September, and throughout the broadcast you’ll get to know some local legends who’ll be putting their town on the map.
