Harold Mitchell to chair TVS

Ad guru Harold Mitchell becomes Chairman of Sydney community channel TVS, while Rachel Bentley is named as new CEO.

Sydney community channel TVS has announced the head of Australia’s largest media agency, Harold Mitchell, as its new Chairman.

Mitchell, who recently sold Mitchell Communication Group for $363 million to British advertising giant Aegis, has been a non-executive director on the TVS Board.

He recently received a Companion of the Order of Australia for contribution to the arts, health and education sectors and his support of humanitarian aid for Timor-Leste and indigenous communities.

UWS media lecturer and Associate Head of the School of Communication Arts, Rachel Bentley, has also been appointed the new CEO, following the exit of Laurie Patton in that position last April.

Bentley was Head of Training for the Sydney Olympic Broadcasting Organisation and is executive producer of the TVS programmes Histrionics and Dare I Ask?

“TVS has the potential to become the hub of Sydney’s creative talent, and I will be using my experience in training and guiding video producers and presenters to help build a new brand of television that isn’t being broadcast on the free to air stations,” she says.
