Auditions: The Renovators

"Have you got the skills to transform the country’s worst house into a real estate goldmine?" Then TEN wants you.

TEN is now calling for applicants for its new reality series, The Renovators.

“Have you got the skills to transform the country’s worst house into a real estate goldmine?” it asks on its casting website.

TEN is looking for the one person who can prove they are “the most talented renovator of all.”

Individuals will take on “rundown homes, with the aim being to make as much profit as you can in a short space of time through clever renovation. As well as the home makeover, contestants must fight for survival in the competition, through an epic series of additional building and design challenges.”

TEN is seeking men and women, aged 18 and above, with “a skill for renovating, experience in renovating, proof of talent in renovating, enthusiasm, drive, and love of renovating.”

Applicants must be available for up to six months between April 2011 and October 2011 (suggesting the show will probably follow MasterChef next year).

The series is produced by Shine Australia.

  3. Shine is the best in the business. All the best execs from Fremantle have gone across. Shine will dominate Aussie tv for the next five years.

  4. This is not MC. If will be if they make it like MC. I can see another flop. 2002-2004 was the renovation show era. Now it’s the food era. lets see where it goes. I mean JMC is sliding. I know after the CG in Delhi it won’t do much better. Maybe George being painted in blue for Blue September might be a omen to this one. He paints a restaurant?

  5. Thanks Jerome. So,

Minute to Win it = Modestly successful (I’ve heard) but not a water cooler topic, I didn’t even noticed it was on.
Iron Chef Australia = interesting unless viewers have already lost the food show appetite.
Letters and Numbers = SBS, can be considered as success since 100k is a success in SBS.
Don’t Stop Believing = failed in the UK, most probably will be the same here due to lack of talent pool.
Relocation Relocation = I love this show on Lifestyle but too niche, will this be a local version on FTA or cable?
Got To Dance = I thought dance competition is dead, So You Think You Can Dance anyone?
Dating in the Dark = is this a dating show for the blind and the fuglies?
The Family = as in like Modern Family mockumentary?
The biggest loser = there was an audience fatigue for this last year so may not be that successful even if they take over this franchise
masterchef = sure fire hit as proven!

  6. Shine will not take on Masterchef next year, I believe, Fremantle still have it next year.

I’m guessing this show will finish on screens in October. So ten will still need something for the last 8 weeks in the ratings period. The Apprentice???

  7. chk chk, Shine have; Minute to Win it, Iron Chef Ausralia, Letters and Numbers, Don’t Stop Believing, Relocation Relocation, Got To Dance, Dating in the Dark, and The Family
and they wil take on The biggest loser and masterchef from next year too.

i think the shows they make are well made and look like they have good production values but i think some of the franchise concepts are destined for failure from day 1 like the boss is coming and i predict don’t stop believing to be as well.

  8. Has Shine Australia already hit the jackpot with their local productions? Looks like The Boss has failed and Junior MasterChef continues to slide. What other productions have they got?

  9. I was a little hesitant at this format when I first heard Ten announce it, but with Shine behind it I think it will be awesome.

  10. sounds very similar to homeMADE, i assume the renovators will be the stripped version that was originally planned for homeMADE before it was chopped into a twice a week format?

ch9 could get smart with their early renual of the Block and return it earlier next year during masterchef, at an 8:30 slot of course, and undermine this show. because if this is a hit 7&9 are in strife.

  11. Renovation shows died like 6 years ago. Thats why there is no Ground Force, endless Blitz shows (alhough some remain), Auction Squad and the endless amount of crap that we had around 2001-2004, mainly on 7. I will be shocked if this show is successful, but then again I thought Master Chef would flop. Maybe if its styled after MC, but renovating it has a chance. Either way I won’t watch.

  12. Maybe inbetween rennovation challengings they can get the masterchef judges in for a cookoff. Combine it all together.
