GEM’s first ever amendment

Nine announces its new channel on Monday, issues a Guide on Tuesday and its first amendment on Wednesday.

Nine’s new digital channel isn’t even on the air yet and already GEM has issued its first-ever programming amendment.

On Saturday September 25 it will no longer play Secrets of the Humpback Whale at 7:30pm as planned, but will air Every Heart Beats True: The Jim Stynes Story.

The doco, which airs on Nine at various times, traces the former AFL player’s battle with cancer.

Nine has also announced it will air the doco at 10:30pm Wednesday Sept 22nd in addition to times declared earlier.

  1. Gem is supposed to be the station for women, isn’t it?
I’d much prefer to watch a nice doc on humpback whales than the story of a footballer I’ve never heard of who has battled cancer.
I can just see it now, Saturday night, let’s relax and watch a cancer story.
    Are they kidding?

  2. @Vinny – 1. You’re right, GO! is more stable now than a couple of months ago but don’t hold your breath.

    2. My fault for not being clear. I was complaining about Nine in general and my ref to 2.5 was with regard to their main channel.

    3. Yup, that’s 3 points 🙂

  3. @Secret Squïrrel – 2 points

    1. Since the new US shows have come on there has been hardly any movement with moving shows around, a lot of the shows like Chuck, Hells Kitchen etc were seen by people before probably on Foxtel wheras if Nine puts new stuff like Hellcats which is free to air firsts and Vamp Diaries it is more stable.

    2. 2.5 men is not on GO! anymore if you check the guides , it has been gone for a while.

    3. Why is everyone worried about a humpback whale story, if Nine had just put TBA like Seven there wouldn’t be any problems.

David when will Seven announce what those TBA’s are on 7 mate ? and also is the documentary about Stynes in HD ?

  4. Oh, TvTonight, you’ve done it again. More fuss over nothing.

Surely you can all see that the replacement programme is way more important and intersting than a documentary about a hump back whale.

  5. @Vinny – this may be a minor amendment now, but many of us see it as the thin edge of the wedge. Remember when GO! first started? – it had solid, consistent programming, shows weren’t dropped or shoved around, and they started on time. Now we have blocks of TBBT (which has killed the show for me, same as with 2.5 Men – I don’t watch either now), programs get moved around or disappear with little notice, and the only reliable thing about the primetime starting times is that they won’t be whatever it says in the guide.

New channel, same old bullsh!t from Nine. (And they wonder why they’re squabbling over an ever-diminishing share of the population pie as people turn away from commercial television).
