Nine’s COPS thump TEN’s Rush
Two locally produced police dramas going head to head results in a win for Nine at TEN's expense.

Nine’s new drama COPS L.A.C. premiered to 1.16m viewers last night, which while only an OK figure was enough to damage Rush on TEN, which sank to 668,000.
The head to head programming of two locally produced police dramas seems particularly disingenuous on Nine’s part, but commercial television has never been about doing anybody any favours. So far the show has received mixed reviews, but a win is a win.
Seven’s X Factor, which ran in different times in different cities due to AFL scheduling, won the night with 1.36m viewers. Despite its tepid debut on Monday, the show has travelled well throughout the rest of the week.
Best for TEN was Bondi Vet on 1.04m and Recruits on 878,000.
Sunrise is on a roll right now with 408,000 over Today‘s 324,000. On Wednesday it was up to 424,000.
Nine won its second night of the week.

There was no problem with dialogue on HD for me (Melbourne). Full 5.1 sound the complete show.
Yes, the show was a little Aussie in its production, but they do not have the big budgets that the US and UK shows have.
How can a Probation officer appear to be so useless?
As for Rush, I gave up on that a long long time ago to due crappy scripting.
Yeah, I didn’t watch either last night due to checking out The X Factor (was played later in Melbourne), but am intending to use 10’s catch-up service to see Rush as I didn’t want to start watching half way, but I was really surprised by the scheduling here.
Two local police/crime related dramas on at the same time? For those who really love this genre (I’m not a major fan.. but I do like some of the characterson Rush).. it is splitting the audience a bit.
Terrible show we won’t be watching it again, “Rush’ is bad enough but this was worse
Really enjoyed Cops LAC .. happy to see it do ok but it’s sadly at the expense of another (albeit boring) aussie drama.
Ah. Rush…
Still, a terrible move by Nine. Way to support the local industry.
I wonder if it’ll drop off next week as I tuned into Cops out of curiosity and probably won’t be watching it again.
Tens over the top voice over for rush would be enough to put anyone off watching this show and shown so many times.
Just tone it down a bit 600k is wowful for aussie drama in prime time.
see what happens next week.
I’m surprised Rush doesn’t rate better. Season 3 has been the best so far.
It’s a shame that Rush was crushed by both Cops LAC and The X Factor/Matty Johns Show combo. I am sure Rush will bounce back next week.
I watched Cops L.A.C. (stupid name – but always willing to give a new Oz show a go) and also found the first part confusing – I thought my TV was malfunctioning! Not really impressed so probably won’t return. The real problem is the lack of decent shows on a Thursday night – particularly if you’re not a footy fan. Rush is too ridiculous to believe – this is Australia not the US. I’ll go back to watching DVDs on Thursday I think (as I did after LAC last night)
COPS looked pretty baddddd. Straight back to Rush for me – the only decent local cop show…City Homicide’s fairly vomit as well.
The X Factor is actually turning into a fairly entertaining ‘switch your brain off and have some fun’ sort of show.
Cops L.A.C on the other hand seems to be made by people who switched their brain off and never turned them back on. An example of Aussie drama at it’s most uninspired.
COPS was average at best! And it looks practically embarrassing against the US imports.
I imagine that figure will slide next week.
Why can’t we get some fresh ideas onto our screens?
Yes it is a shame. Having watched both eps from last night, it was clear that Rush was far superior in quality. Hopefully disappointed viewers who have had their Kate Ritchie fix will return to the better drama next week.
A new hyped show will always do well in its first week.
Unfortunately Cops L.A.C. isn’t very good and the ratings should plummet.
However Rush is one of the best Aussie dramas of the last few years and continues to struggle. It is so sad that yet another good/very good Aussie drama will soon be history.
I guess we get what we deserve!
@Rob – there was dialog, must be a technical issue?
As for the show it’s self OMG what a pile of animal dropping! I don’t like to bad mouth new shows until they have had a chance to find them selves but last night was just bad. From the acting to technical stuff it was just bad!
I mean in one instance an officer contaminated a potential crime scene buy not wearing gloves and digs out a bullet using a pen, I don’t know if it’s the CSI in me but thats just wrong! Also isn’t it the MEs job to get ID off a body and not the police officers with little training?
It’s back to Rush for me which I recorded last night and was much better than Nine’s new Cop show, I can see the rating tumble in the coming weeks!
@Rob I had the same problem on 9 HD but the audio was fine on 9 SD. I guessed they had an issue with the 5.1 mix but it can’t be as simple as that…
This is not good for Rush as i a massive fan of it. Will Channel ten do a repeat of it??
What do you expect it’s a new show. and the same old B.S.
Over the time, this new cop show, will wane onto the scrap heap!!!
It’s a shame because Rush was such a great episode last night!! I have no interest in Cops L.A.C.
Am I the only one who just hates their promos? Very tacky.
1.16m viewers with no apparent taste for good television
I don’t think you can draw too many conclusions from last night’s figure just yet. LAC went to air off the back of a huge publicity campaign – and the figure of 1.1 isn’t great. A lot of people would have tuned in to check it out and Rush still won 16-39, so it really depends how they both go over the next few weeks. It’s a pity they are programmed against each other like this. Remember it was Michael Healy who programmed The Young Lions against Blue Heelers, and we all know how that turned out. LAC was ok, but dare I say, it lacked something. It depends how quickly it goes the way of RSO and descends into soap. Maybe that’s what Nine wants from this drama anyway.
yeh i was a little dissapointed with the all round production of it, including acting and alot of things..and it was obvious that the police liason was not on duty for the first episode shoot…or at least was ignored…. just disspaointed…will give it one more chance….
Wow! Considering I missed both shows due to technological issues. I didn’t get a chance to see either.
A huge shame for Rush since they are developing the storyline from the season opener.
As for COPS, well done. Still not happy about Aussie Dramas going head to head!
The anti Rush fans should be happy 🙁
Will this be repeated? I missed the episode.
Why was there no dialogue for the first 10 mins of Cops L.A.C last night?
I just watched it after recording it.
It was terrible…
Just after a please explain.
Tah
Hope you’re well buddy.
