Stars turn out for Grundy’s book launch

200 adoring stars, former employees and industry colleagues turned out up for the launch of Reg Grundy's autobiography.

Legendary media mogul Reg Grundy launched his autobiography at the Sydney Opera House last night and from all reports some veteran stars were amongst the 200 there to celebrate the 87 year old’s happy occasion.

Mediaweek reports guests included former Grundy TV bosses Ian Holmes and Andrew Brooke, tennis great Ken Rosewall, Kerri-Anne Kennerly, Melbourne showbiz icons Philip Brady (who filmed most of the speeches on his camcorder) and Pete Smith and John Burgess.

“I had probably 3000 people working for me at the highlight of my career, and I loved them, I think they loved me too,” Grundy told the assembled crowd.

“I have been very fortunate, I have had a wonderful life, I have met some terrific people, so many of them … in this audience tonight helped me on my way.

“It was impossible for me to do this on my own.”

Grundy’s speech was short, partly because he welled up everytime he mentioned his wife or his assembled friends in the room.

A Current Affair broadcast from the Opera House last night so that Tracy Grimshaw could attend. Grundy’s wife Joy Chambers thanked Grimshaw and her team for their story which aired last week.

Barry Crocker crooned the Neighbours‘ theme song with the audience swaying their hands in the air in time with the music.

Alan Jones was MC for the night.

Sounds like a great read….

Get rid of that darn flowery, nasal version of the theme song that we’ve endured for far too long and bring back a male voice – preferably the original
