Still the leader when it comes to panel shows, ABC1 will launch a new weekly sports quiz program called The Trophy Room in December.
The half hour, prime-time show will feature a range of celebrity sports heroes, comedians and performers. It will target both casual and committed sports fans alike.
A host and team captains are yet to be announced.
ABC1 Controller, Brendan Dahill, said “Combining sports chat and trivia with parlour games and physical sporting challenges, The Trophy Room is an ideal opportunity to frame a fiercely contested match between two star-studded teams each led by celebrity team captains.
“The Trophy Room will be good clean fun the whole family can enjoy, while giving viewers a chance to hone their sports trivia knowledge over the summer break.”
It will be co-produced from an original concept by Granada Media Australia, which also conceived Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation for TEN.
It will launch on Wednesday, December 8th at 8.30pm on ABC1.

ABC created the sports comedy genre in this country – way before the Footy Shows
Im assuming another AFL type show ay..prime time offsiders
A few years ago the ABC had an absolutely terrible sports quiz called Head 2 Head which didn’t last very long. That was a genuine quiz show though, whereas this appears to be more of a panel game in the Spicks and Specks mould. Given the ABC’s pretty poor record on sports shows I don’t have much hope for this, but I’m willing to be surprised.
The Squiz!
My bad i misread the Headline sorry i now retreact that blog
wasnt there a show of a similar kinds in the mid 2000s. Cant remember the name but it definetly was a sports quiz show of some kind. Hope it does well if its at a good time slot i will give it a try.
Keep Rebecca Wilson away from it for the love of God!
Could be a good watch. If only the ABC could lure H.G. and Roy back to the fold it could be a great watch.
LOL @Jake. Was just about to say the same thing. :)
Maybe Wilkins could? He wasn’t too bad on The Fat either.
It sounds like a good gig for Tony Squires, shame he’s with Seven now…
