ELEVEN confirmed for Tasmania

Tasmanian viewers got an early Christmas present yesterday when TDT confirmed ELEVEN would launch on January 11.

Tasmanian viewers got an early Christmas present yesterday when Tasmanian Digital Television confirmed ELEVEN would launch on January 11.

General manager Stephen Giles said, “We’re thrilled to announce that we will be offering and launching Channel Eleven for regional viewers at the same time that metropolitan viewers will have access to this new service.

“With a stable of some of the most popular comedies and dramas, as well as iconic programs The Simpsons and Neighbours, Channel Eleven promises to be unlike any other multi-channel offering on Australian television – particularly given that there will be no program cross-over between Channel Eleven and Ten,” he said.

The news follows recent confirmation that regional viewers on Southern Cross in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and ACT would also see the new channel on the same day as metropolitan viewers.

Corrected.

  1. @Tasmanian Devil. I can tell you that it hasn’t been shown in Adelaide for years. I reckon we had season 1 then it went away for a long time. Came back but lasted a few weeks. I don’t even think we got the episodes when the new girl came in shown here, that’s how far behind we are.

  2. Southern Cross are announcing on the local news tonight for Spencer Gulf and Broken HIll something about the first of new channels so start dates for 11, 7two and go will likely be known later tonight for the region and its possible they will start in January.

  3. Why not start Monk from the beginning? That way I’d watch it if I liked the timeslot. As I haven’t seen a lot of episodes (because it was treated unreliably). So more people can enjoy it because hopefully it’d be shown much more dependably. Start to finish from the beginning.

  4. @ David Knox – I know, but why would 11 bother repeating the episodes that some states missed out on, when fans can just watch them on DVD? That’s what I’m doing.

  5. @Cameron: Regional SA will probably get all multichannels available terrestrially within a couple of months. Remember, they only just switched off analogue, and they now are figuring out what to do next.

  6. Speaking of the ACT David do you know if and when the channel has its soft launch in regional area’s because I’ve noticed they’re already running the Coming Soon on Eleven in the Cities but I have yet to find it available in the ACT.

  7. @ JB – Ten has shown every season of Monk except S6. It’s normally had a Saturday time slot so the football has interfered with it in some states. S5 was shown on Ten HD (ie the metro markets only, and only households with HD). S6 is the only season that wasn’t shown at all on FTA, but all 8 complete seasons are out on DVD as of Dec 1.

  8. Vinny: Simpsons is supposedly exclusive to ELEVEN when it launches, but so far still listed on TEN from Jan 11.

on ten will be repeats as only new eps for Simpsons are going to be on 11

  9. I predict Eleven will dominate the new digital channels. It seems to be mostly new run shows, but also shows that have a hardcore loyal fan base.

So is there any word on whether Pysch and Monk will be shown on Eleven??? Pysch is up to s5, we’ve had the 1st season. Monk is like s8 and we got up to s2.

  10. I don’t think Southern Cross has announced 11 for SA yet it’s only the aggregated markets (eastern states) that they announced prior to Tassie. They’re still waiting to launch extra digital capacity that only became available in regional SA with last week’s analogue switch off.

  11. So that is basically a national rollout on day one (11.1.11)with (I think) the only places missing out being NT and the smaller cities in WA.

    Pretty good!
