Southern Cross confirms ELEVEN launch

Southern Cross viewers in Queensland, New South Wales, the ACT and Victoria will see ELEVEN on the same day as metropolitan areas.

Southern Cross has now confirmed announce the arrival of Channel Eleven for regional Australia.

It will launch across its four aggregated markets of Queensland, New South Wales, the ACT and Victoria on the same day as TEN launches to metropolitan areas: January 11, 2011.

The news will come as good news to regional viewers who were awaiting clarification they would not miss out key episodes of favourite shows such as Neighbours, The Simpsons, Dexter, Supernatural and Nurse Jackie.

Southern Cross Media CEO Rhys Holleran said, “We’re thrilled to announce that we will be offering and launching Channel Eleven for regional viewers at the same time that metropolitan viewers will have access to this new service.

“With a stable of some of the most popular comedies and dramas, as well as iconic programs The Simpsons and Neighbours, Channel Eleven promises to be unlike any other multi-channel offering on Australian television- particularly given that there will be no program cross-over between Channel Eleven and Southern Cross TEN.

Meanwhile the government plans for other areas to access all Free to Air channels via its VAST satellite system in the future.

  1. Seriously the things people are saying would make you think TV is a human right or something. Tasmania’s not any more important than any other place. Some areas don’t even have the main Ten channel yet. Besides, if Tasmania wasn’t going to receive 11 the promos wouldn’t be showing. There’s still a month left for an announcement to be made so be patient and stop whinging.

  2. Pietro, from what I gather from my EPG, there are two HD streams of One, one of which will give way to 11. So, I won’t call it the end of HD yet. Ten might have two HD channels, but that’s not likely due to bandwidth.

I thought that Tas was in the same market as regional Vic, or that SC10 Tas was programmed differently from the mainland, I thought wrong.

  3. No word yet on Tassie viewers. So far its only been confirmed for Southern Cross TEN viewers. According to my sources, Tasmania may have to wait a while longer.

  4. Well I hope I will clearly be able to pick it up from Wagga with my 60 foot antenna from Griffith cause WIN Corp. wont even offer us WIN’s sister channels let alone PRIME’s or TEN’s ='(

  5. “It will launch across its four aggregated markets of Queensland, New South Wales, the ACT and Victoria”

And TDT in Tasmania still hasnt confirmed anything?

  6. Well that’s the end of any decent quality HD on ONEHD. Which in actuality means the end of any decent quality HD on FTA TV.

I’m glad I now have 200GB a month from my ISP.
