Discovery ignites a call for documentaries

Doco producers are invited to submit Australian and/or NZ programming proposals to Discovery.

Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific (DNAP) has announced Discovery Ignite 2011, an initiative that invites documentary submissions for local co-production.

Producers are invited to submit original, ‘distinctly Australian and/or New Zealand’ programming proposals by March 11, 2011.

Last year Ultimate Fish: Barramundi, hosted by Andrew “ET” Ettingshausen, and Rocket Compulsion were produced as part of Discovery Ignite. Storm Surfers was another.

Mandy Pattinson from Discovery said, “We’re very excited about receiving submissions for the next round of Discovery Ignite, an initiative which has a long term goal to create innovative and local content, extend relations with Australian and New Zealand filmmakers and develop our Australasian talent pool.

“The initiative also offers the opportunity to showcase the work of local documentary producers on the international scene with Discovery’s worldwide audience.”

  1. Heres a proposal, convert Discovery Science and Discovery Home & Health from 4:3 to 16:9 widescreen seems though their the last doco channels to be broadcast in 4:3, than relaunch Discovery HD World as a simulcast of Discovery Channel cause its programming sucks compared to that of its primary SD channel, than launch HD simulcasts for Animal Planet and TLC seems though they would be the most popular channels offered by Discovery and Animal Planet in HD will offer more competition to Nat Geo Wild HD. Stop this crap of looking for new docos and put your money to good use!
